No sight in all the world could have made Charlotte's heart as ill as the one she saw in the mirror. Seeing Alastor so deprived of any will, of any spirit or life, his tantrums were nothing compared to this state of misery and depression. What she wouldn't give to embrace him at this very moment. To hold him and soothe his pain, to give him a reason to live.
"You mustn't die." She pleaded while trying not to cry. "Please don't die. Please! I'll come back! I'll come back to you right now! I promise! Just don't die!"
Then his image was gone.
"Oh Alastor."
"That's him?! Ugh! He's even uglier than I thought! I don't think even Satan himself could look so vile!"
Charlotte was instantly startled by the appearance of Seviathan. This whole time he had been standing behind her, looking over her shoulder, gazing up Alastor's image in the mirror just as she was.
"What are you doing here?" She asked him. "Get out of my room! You don't have permission to be in here!"
"I have your father's permission."
"I doubt that he would consent to allowing you in my room unsupervised! Leave!"
"So that's what you've spent a whole year living with? That's the creature you're so concerned about? What would posses you to even feel compassion for such an abomination?!"
"I told you to get out! Leave me alone!"
"Why do you care so much about that thing? What makes that beast so special to you?"
"If you won't leave then I'll leave!"
She turned to her vanity and opened the jewelry box Husk gave her, it was where she had left her ring. But when she looked inside the box she couldn't find the ring anywhere.
"Oh no...Oh no! No, no, no, no! No! Where is it?"
She started to panic. She re-checked the box then she checked her drawers and under her bed but the ring was no where to be found.
"Father!"
She ran to his room in a frenzy.
"Charlotte what's the matter?" Lucifer asked.
"My ring is gone!"
"What ring?"
"The one Alastor gave me! It's gone!"
"Perhaps you've misplaced it."
"No! Somebody stole it from my jewelry box!"
"Helsa." He deduced. "I should have known that she would try something like this. Helsa! Come here!"
She came into his room just as he requested. Seviathan and Baxter were following close behind.
"Yes Father?"
"Tell me the truth Helsa, did you take Charlotte's ring?"
"Why of course not."
"Liar!" Charlotte screamed furiously. "You're lying! I know you took it! Where is it? Give it back to me this instant or so help me I'll-"
"Charlotte!" Lucifer scolded. "There's no need for that kind of reaction. Now I understand the ring is important to you but you're acting is if it's urgent you have it back."
"It is urgent!"
"Nonsense. How could a mere ring invoke such urgency?"
"Because it's the only way you can get back to the castle isn't it?" Helsa concluded with a smug look. "If you can't find that ring then you can't ever go back to the castle, can you?"
