They say when you're dying, your whole life flashes before your eyes. But for me, it was a few good memories, but also my biggest regrets. And as the plane crashes down I can only think of one thing, him and how much I fucked up. Before I get into it, let me rewind.
*13 years earlier*
My outgoing 7 year old self marches up to our new neighbors house and bangs on the door. The door swings open to reveal a shaggy looking 7 year old boy. His light brown hair matches mine almost exactly. His eyes are piercing blue opposed to my poo brown ones, that are sometimes hazel, if I'm lucky.
"Cara." I introduce, sticking my hand out. He hesitantly shakes it.
"Dylan." He replies. I giggle.
"I like it. I'll call you Dyl-Pickle." He smiles a bit.
"So what are you doing today?" I ask. Summers are hot in Lake Arrowhead so I fan myself with my hand. School starts tomorrow. I inwardly groan.
"Nothing really." He shrugs.
"Perfect. Now you have plans. I live next door. Be in front of my house with your bike in 10 minutes." I demand and march down his driveway.

"It's so nice here." Dylan comments on our way home from The Village. I'm still sipping my milkshake.
"Yeah." I breathe. "Race ya home?" I challenge.
"Heck yeah!" He exclaims and takes off. My milkshake hits the floor, gone forever.

"Bye, Dyl-Pickle! Wanna walk to school together tomorrow?" I ask.
"Sure. I've come up with a name for you. Care-Bear." He says proudly. I laugh.
"You're pretty cool." I comment with a smile.
"You too, Care-Bear. We should be best friends." He states, much less shy than this morning.
"Definitely." We hug and I run home.

I pull my window up, lean out, and knock on Dylan's. He opens his window.
"Hey, Dyl-Pickle." I greet.
"Hi, Care-Bear." He says with a laugh.
"I had fun today." I tell him.
"Me too." He smiles. I smile back.
We talk until it's way too late to be up on a school night.
This kid's pretty cool.
