I grip onto my seat and shut my eyes tight. I can't escape the guilt, no matter how hard I try.
*10 years earlier*
"Care-Bear! HURRY UP! We are gonna be late to school!" Dylan whines. Goody two shoes, much?
"I'm coming, I'm coming!" I yell. "Hold your horses!"
I run downstairs and out the door. We start our 15 minute walk to school. The mile goes by quickly because we just talk and laugh.
"See you at lunch Dyl-Pickle." I say and skip off to class

That day after school I bang on Dylan's window. He opens it and I'm crying.
"Cara..." He says. He looks very concerned.
"Climb over." He helps me into his room. He doesn't ask what's wrong, which I'm thankful for. He just holds me and kisses my hair.
"It's ok, Care-Bear. I'm here." He tells me. I stop sobbing long enough to explain.
"My mom cheated on my dad. He left us." I sob.
"Sshh, it's ok, it's ok." He says soothingly as he kisses my hair and rubs my arm. He hugs me tighter and I just cry harder.
I slept over that night. I remember inhaling his scent, it made me feel safe. We fell asleep holding each other.
