Lumine

My whole life all I wanted to do is travel, to stray away from those that I hate. This village, I hate, this life, I hate.

The standards for me, I hate.

I am expected to marry a man, a man I don't want. one who can provide for my children that I don't want. And make me be a housewife, that I don't want.

Picking up a small empty basket in the kitchen, I dust it off gently and look towards the stairs. "Auntie, do you need anything?"

I currently reside with my Aunt, my adopted mother, I call her my aunt because she reminds me of her. My auntie-Jean-doesn't mind what I call her.

Her sister visits us sometimes, her name is Barbara. She likes to do tricks with water and likes to preach about the good word of Barbatos. I'd say she is around two years younger than me.

My aunt walks down the stairs her pale hand on the railing, the old, wooden steps creaking every step she takes. "Lumine, did you call for me?"

I blink and look at her, she was in a dainty blue dress accompanied by her Vision and she had her hair in her classic ponytail. She wasn't in her knight attire.

"Y-Yes I did." I stutter. "Im going to the market, so do you need me to get anything for you?"

She noticed my kindness and stepped off the last step of the stairs. She walks over to my location and gently wraps her arms around me, in a sweet embrace.

I love it when she hugs me, it reminds me of my brother's hugs....

Aether, where are you?

"No need to get me anything Lumi." She pats my back gently and I hug her back with one of my arms since I was holding the basket in the other. "Be careful out there alright?"

She pulls away from the embrace, some of her blonde hair covering her forehead. She was the best Aunt I could ever wish for, beautiful and kind.

"There's been reports about blood being on some of the streets and dead foxes laying around everywhere." She looked into my eyes, her own blue eyes shining against mine. "Please, be careful?"

I nodded and gripped onto the basket I was holding. "I'll be fine, Auntie you don't have to worry about me."

"I'll probably catch up with Amber." I told her so she knows I won't be alone. Aunt Jean always hates it when I go out by myself.

I thank her for being protective of a child that isn't even hers.

"Oh? Amber?" She places one hand on her hip and slightly leans over. "You know how much I love that girl."

I nod and giggle slightly. Aunt Jean calls Amber "a rowdy but fun person to be around." She describes Amber as a chaotic neutral or even evil at some points. Which seems fairly accurate but I haven't studied on the alignments charts lately.

Oh, right, no school. I don't attend school. That's why I haven't studied.

A slight breeze makes its way through the open window. "I'll be back in an hour." I lean in and give my Aunt a hug. "See you later."

She hugs me back and gives me a kiss on my forehead. "Stay safe and you better be back on time!"

I laugh and let go of the hug. "You bet I will!"

I skip out of the door as my aunt waves me goodbye, gently closing the old, rusty door behind me as I do so.

My white dress fluttering in the wind as I walk down the cobblestone streets of Starfell. Starfell is my town. My community.
