As I stepped into the library, I breathed in a sigh of relief. No nosy couples, no policemen looking for escaped orphans. Just books. And that was all I needed. I took in a deep whiff of those pages just waiting to be turned and started towards the kids section. I came here every week..
I sat down in one of the beanbag chairs all the way in the back and started to listen. Mrs. Magic was reading The Ugly Duckling. I had heard it a thousand times, so half listening, half daydreaming, I looked around at all the people. Only about half the kids were listening. The rest were just staring at me. I guess they didn't expect a fourteen year old to be at story time, But I spent most of the time looking at the mothers. I would pick one out and say, "What if she was my mom?" And then I would pick a name, and her job, and things like that.
I looked around, and then saw the perfect one. She had long, reddish hair and was stroking her toddler's head as she listened to the story.
Her name is Mary. She's a stay at home mom. Takes me to the park every week, loves ice cream. I'm her favorite child. We live on a horse farm and she always rides with me. She loves me.
There, the perfect mother. But I resented the way she stroked the little girl's hair. I longed for mine to be stroked. To feel the warmth of a mother, I wonder what it would be like.
I closed my eyes and soon after, fell asleep.

"Anna?"
Huh? Had my mom woken me up for breakfast? I could almost smell the bacon. I opened my eyes. Mrs. Magic was standing there, book in her hands.
"Story time's over sweetie. I just wanted to let you know that the library is closing in ten minutes." She. Said.
"Kay."
"Anna, do you have a warm place to go tonight?"
Panic suddenly engulfed me, "Yes maim," I lied.
She smiled at me, "Well, see you soon Anna."
"Bye."
Mrs. Magic turned around and disappeared.
Her name isn't really Mrs.Magic. That's just what the kids all her at story time.
A puddle of drool was on the beanbag. I wiped it away and then got up. But I was soooooo tired.
"The library is closing in five minutes."
It was so nice and warm.
Another librarian walked up to me, " We're closing soon kid."
"Yeah, I know."
"You should probably get going then."
"Yeah, I know."
I started to walk towards the door, but didn't go out. I ducked into the young adult wing. Maybe I would just stay the night.
