It had been a few weeks since Emma went to Granny's with Regina. They hadn't really had any contact since then. Unless you want to call aimlessly staring into each other's eyes as they walk past one another in the hallway or their nervous little 'hey's' and 'hi's' in class as contact. On occasion they would share small glances in between classes that only lasted for a few seconds. Emma attempted to work up the nerve to ask Regina out, this time on an actual date. Yet each time she saw the brunette, her cheeks were either turning red or she was seconds away from getting a boner. One afternoon, school was let out early due to the championship game being held that evening. Emma was finishing up her assignment in Ms. Belle's writing class when she notices a certain brunette walking through the doorway. She was very confused as to why Regina was in the classroom. She didn't write or take this class. 'Was she looking for her? No, that was impossible. Why would she be looking for Emma?' These thoughts accumulated in her mind as she began to overthink. Their eyes met once again and Emma gave her a soft smile, Regina reciprocated that with rosy blushing cheeks and her licking her lips. Emma slowly starts to put her notebook and books away in her backpack as she watches Regina from the corner of her eye. She was trying to play it off as cool by being discreet. Regina walks up to Ruby's desk, tapping her shoe on the tile floor with her arms crossed. The sound echoes throughout the room. She looked so cute when she was frustrated and stressed. "Hurry up, we're going to be late. You know I need to get in one more practice before the game later on." Regina says nervously as she stands in front of Ruby's desk. Ruby rolls her eyes and starts to pack up her things. "Babe calm down, you're overthinking this. You're ready, just breathe. We've been practicing and working hard and we're finally here." Ruby reassures her as she stands up. Emma listens to their conversation through one ear while zipping up her backpack taking her sweet time. 'Were they an item?' Emma wonders to herself when she hears Ruby calling Regina babe. 'No they couldn't be. Unless.' she thought, raising her brows. She walks down the row of seats where Ruby and Regina are standing. "Hey Emma, good work on that paper. See you next week in group." Ruby calls out, causing Emma to turn around looking at them. There the butterflies were once again in Regina's stomach. "Umm yea. Thank you. Y...you, you too." She stumbles on her words. "Hey Regina." Emma smiles as she bites her lip. "Hi," she whispers. "Hey." Emma repeats. "Hi.." Regina says again smiling. Ruby rolls her eyes, they were terrible at this she thought. No wonder they were both still in the friendzone. Ruby nudges Regina in hopes she will snap out of it. "Practice oh yes practice we have to get going." Regina says. Ruby was hoping Regina would invite Emma to the game, but I guess she'd have to do all the work herself. "Oh.. yea I won't get in your way. Good luck, have a good game. Ruby, see you next week in class." Emma smiles, about to leave. "Hey Emma, wait up! Would you like to come to our championship game? I know Regina would really like that." Ruby smiles looking back at Regina then at Emma. The blonde had a bright smile on her face. "Totally, I'd really like that. I mean, would that be okay?" She asks Regina, who's trying hard to contain her smile and excitement. "Yeah definitely I want you to come to my game. Umm.. I... umm... I mean our game, yea because Ruby and I will be both playing. We're playing together on a team. Our championship game. Yea.." She says trying to play it cool but she was nervously drifting off the subject. "We'll see you later Emma." Ruby smiles nodding. "See you both tonight. I especially look forward to seeing you beautiful." Emma winks at Regina before walking off. "Regina, chill. What was that." Ruby laughs, nudging Regina. "What I'm cool. Cool as a cucumber. Did I mention I'm cool." Regina said, trying to convince herself. "Yeah sure you are, real smooth." Ruby laughs. "I.. I.. umm.. mean our game yea our game." Ruby mimics her best friend. "SHUT UP!!" Regina blurts out laughing as she playfully pushes Ruby with her hips who ends up stumbling off balance. "You know how I get in person. I'm a mess." Regina shakes her head, hitting her forehead with her palm. "Yes I know this is why you have me. What would you do without me?" They both laugh as they make their way to the field to practice.
