Chapter Two - This is Us

A/N - OK, Chapter One is my attempt at setting the stage for this story. My hope is to give you an opportunity to understand each character, the family dynamic and show that the love dynamic that this family has is its foundation that was established by Amy and Ty. I would be foolish to think everything is perfect, but you will see that the family working as one always makes everything better. Some Mature Content. Enjoy!

Amy opened her eyes and saw the most beautiful sight in the world. Her husband Ty sleeping peacefully next to her. As always, they were wrapped up in each other arms. The solace she felt was her dream and her life which was magical. No doubt the early years of their relationship were challenging. Both of them needed to grow up and realize the love that they had for each other when the first met was most important. But after all of the missteps they married and began the life that they have now. And for Amy it was a dream come true and the man beside her was her partner and love of her life. Besides the fact that after almost 20 years he was still really hot.

Hoping to be able to get a little loving, she started playing with his hair and caressing his face with the hope to wake him up before the chaos began. His eyes fluttered and he opened his eyes to see his wife's unbelievable blue eyes staring right at him. "Are you staring at me again?"

Every moment of every day Ty was in disbelief that he was married to her and had a life that he never thought he would have. His youth was a mess but the day he set foot at Heartland it changed forever. The first time he knew he was in love was when he watched Amy jump the course, he had built for her. Spartan wouldn't go into a trailer yet so he built the course out of rock and tree limbs so she could take Spartan there to jump. As he was leaving with Jack, he looked over and waved at her. She looked back with the smile that was only for him and waved to him happily. He was done for. Later in their relationship, they both agreed that although they didn't understand it yet they we destined to be together forever – the smile and wave was the start.

"Well yes I am", Amy said "why do you ask." "Well, if I didn't know better, I might think you want something more than early morning cuddling" Ty said in his manly voice that she loved. "Hmmm, maybe a little more than that" she answered. With that cleared up she crashed her mouth to his and they shared a heated kiss allowing their tongues to dance. Ty moved down to her neck, and she moaned with anticipation as he kissed his way to her luscious breasts. She was so happy they didn't get dressed after last night's love making. Their hands began the onslaught of caressing, touching, and pinching. A play that they were both very skilled at. His hand roamed her breast, thin hips, and her shapely rear end. Eventually they landed where she wanted them to, and she was wet and ready for him. Meanwhile Amy's hands cupped the back of his head and moved across his broad shoulders. As she moved down his strong back, after a quick pinch his delicious butt, she moved to his six-pack abs. From there she found what she was looking for and began stroking his manhood as his moans matched hers. With everything heading in the right direction their anticipation of love making was become a reality. Then it happened...

Their four daughters understood the rules. When their door was closed and locked, they had to knock and announce who they were and what they needed without coming in. But what interrupted them was a bit more than that. Granted the girls couldn't gain entrance to the locked master bedroom (Amy and Ty had a few to many times where that happened) they were to multiple aggressive knocks with a mix of moms, dads and I hate my sister yelling. They looked to each other and frowned and Ty said, "I got this." For Amy's benefit she got a great backside view of her naked husband as he walked to the door. He went to the door and calmly said, "Girls your mom and I will be out in 30 minutes. I want the table set for breakfast and a confirmation that all morning chores are done." After a small delay they heard a chorus of "Yes sir and sorry Mom and Dad."

They hopped back into bed and thought, can we take more than 30 minutes. As they heard the arguing coming from the kitchen they decided to get up and get dressed, but only after a deep passionate kiss and a rain check agreement. Even though they had been intimate for many years their love making never dwindled, in fact it only got better. So, making alone time for each other was a number one priority.

Ty was the first to get ready and offered to Amy that she should shower. He had to run into the clinic this morning for a short time, so Amy was going to have to handle the prep for school. They girls heard him coming so a quick hush came over the room. As he turned into the kitchen, they were all seated at the kitchen island looking over their school stuff. He noticed that all of their lunches were finished, and the table was set. Immediately Maddie the rambunctious 5-year-old blurted out, "Addie only did a couple of the dishes, the rest of us had to do everything else." Before Addie could respond, Ty put his finger to his mouth and said, "No more words for now. My question is what does everyone want for breakfast – cereal or eggs and toast?" After mixed responses he said, "Ok if you want cereal help yourself and I will get the eggs ready. Addie you can make the toast, Annie get the juice and milk and Maddie get the butter and jam. Lyndy, can you take this coffee to our room for your mother and set it on her nightstand."

By the time Amy finished her shower and dressed she grabbed her coffee heading to the kitchen to see how things were going. She walked into an orderly breakfast and a plate of eggs and toast handed to her by her husband. They kissed, longer than some of the children wanted and the gagging sounds began from the twins. Lyndy immediately shushed them, and Maddie glared at them (She really liked that her parents loved each other so much). Amy asked if the chores were done, and they talked about the day.

The family organized their day on the family calendar. A good-sized white board was on the kitchen wall, and everyone had a color. In the barn there were two similar boards. One was for the family horses and their schedules. No matter what every family horse had to be ridden at least 3-4 times a week. Not a problem for a family who loved horses. The other one was for client horses. They could handle 12 horses at a time which filled the barn up. But if needed they could stable 6 more outside comfortably.

The family home sat on a small hill overlooking a large open meadow with the Canadian Rockies as a background. Jack deeded the land to Amy and Ty because it was their favorite spot on the Heartland ranch. A heard of wild horses, that they had saved still roamed the meadow. Amy kept the herd count under control by "joining up" with several each year. Some were rehomed and in the case of Blaze, Triumph and Sundance they went to family.

Amy's methods, that were passed down from her mother and grandmother, were well known and she was considered one of the best horse whisperers in Alberta, for that fact most of Canada and the northwestern US. But she would always say does not whisper to the horses, she listens. Both Lyndy and Georgie have the gift as well and along with Katie and the other children everyone helps Amy with the client horses. Ty was a well-known vet throughout Canada, specifically with some of the surgical techniques he had developed. He partnered with Scott Cardinal, the local vet, and his mentor, right after graduation but now he only works there as needed since his role now is a partner with the "horsey girl" he fell in love with years ago. Every horse that came to the Miracle Center was fully vetted and when ready was released to Amy and the girls to "fix." The family works together to gain a horse's trust so they can help it finds its place.

The dream Amy and Ty had so many years ago has been realized. The foundation of their dream has always been the love the share for each other, their children, and the family. It hasn't always been a smooth ride but their resiliency and love for each other always managed the right the ship. And right now, at this place in time, the ship was steadily moving in the right direction.
