The persons so sucked waned, grew pale, and fell into consumption
If vampires dont drink blood essentially their mind decay until they are mindlessly driven by hunger, turning essentially into zombies. Drinking the blood in those cases was what allowed the Vampires to retain some semblance of their humanity.
