Bella

Mary hates it here. I'm not really sure why, who wouldn't want to be stuck with their best friends for all of eternity? If you think about it, we could be stuck somewhere much worse. I wasn't entirely on board with the plan to scare these new girls, it just seemed like a joke at first, but now that Mary's started it I don't think we can go back now. The new girls seem nice, a little boring, but there's nothing wrong with that. I didn't blame my friends for wanting to have some fun, since all of this did feel like a slight invasion of privacy. Overall I felt conflicted about the entire situation.

My days consisted of watching Brooke do her homework, clean her room, make dinner, or watching TV. I wished that I could read a book like I used to, but I couldn't for two reasons. One, when our families came up and cleaned out our rooms they took my books with them and two, I couldn't physically lift anything anymore. Watching Mary open that door gave me some kind of false hope that I could possibly do the same but I was met with disappointment as I watched my hand flutter through a fork. I asked her how she was able to do it but she told me she didn't know either. We all tried to do it again when none of the girls were in the apartment and each of us failed miserably.

"I don't understand," Josi muttered. "I watched Mary do it perfectly. Why can't any of us do it?"

"I can't do it either." Mary said. We had spent the past twenty minutes trying to open these damn doors and none of us could do it. Our frustrations were beginning to grow.

"This is stupid," I said as I slammed my hand against the door. My hand made a loud smack as my hand hit the wood. "Wait a minute," I looked at my hand that was resting perfectly on the door. "My hand didn't go through the door. It's touching the door, I'm touching the door!" I excitedly began hitting the door over and over again. It was a feeling I hadn't known that I missed. Pure joy and excitement filled my body as I kept touching the door and my friends cheered and yelled at the spectacle in front of us.

"Maybe we can only touch something when we feel strong emotions." Allison speculated.

"That might make sense," Josi began, "since Mary was really annoyed when she opened the door. Bella, you were frustrated so you were able to touch the door. What I'm wondering is if it's only feelings of anger." I looked at my hand that was still placed on the wooden door that had been painted white. I wasn't sure if that was the case since I wasn't feeling very frustrated at the moment. I relayed my thoughts to the rest of the group.

"But you're feeling excited." Allison pointed at me with a smile and wide eyes. "That's still a strong emotion."

"So since we're all feeling excited, then let's all try to open the doors." Mary said with determination as she turned to her bedroom door. Each of us turned to our respective doors and placed our hands on the handles. There was a collective gasp as we all realized we could feel the door handles. "On the count of three," Mary started, "one...." I took in a breath. "Two..." I wrapped my fingers around the handle. "Three..." I turned the handle and shoved open the door. Each of us yelled excitedly as we all entered our rooms. The apartment turned into a frenzy as we opened and closed our doors repeatedly, reveling in our accomplishments. We all stepped into the hallway and hugged each other, our cheerful laughs filling the empty apartment.

"Okay, okay," I said as I broke away from the group hug. "We should probably shut these doors before the girls get back and piss themselves." We all eased the doors closed and went to sit in the living room. The girls would be back soon. It was almost three o'clock and I heard them saying their last classes ended somewhere around three.

"So now that we know how to do this, we can finally have some fun." Josi remarked. As I mentioned earlier, I wasn't entirely keen on us scaring these innocent girls.
