Snow fell from the sky over a bunker. The sounds from the Worker drones seemingly drowned out the howling of an oncoming blizzard. The drones moved in and out of the bunker constantly, it is the largest center of trade and commerce for the lucky dwellers of Copper 9. The sun began to show through the snow. Uzi Doorman washed her face off and looked up into the mirror. In the reflection was a young drone in a white jacket, her hair was messy, but she thought it complimented the look.
Turning to the radio next to her, she flicks the button. The loud crackle is heard throughout the household. The radio came to life as a calm voice came on "Good morning! Drones of Copper 9! It is March 13th, 2034. Remember to keep your bodies warm as we begin our 4 month long period of being the farthest from our Sun. We will start today with some tunes." the music came on, seemingly reviving the young worker drone.
Uzi entered the dining room to be greeted by her father Kahn and mother Sarah, "Look who finally woke up." he said jokingly "Very funny Dad." Uzi went for the door before being stopped. Sarah held up her backpack, "Forgetting something?".
Uzi was on the short trek to school. "Hey Uzi! Wait up!" Uzi turned around to see her friend Vivian rushing to catch up. The two Drone's feet clicked against the concrete floor. "Did you finish your homework?" inquired Vivian. Vivian was always a person who would care more about work, she lived for it. Uzi rolled her eyes "I'll finish it before we start, I'm sure it's not that hard.".
The two finally reached the door of the Command Center now repurposed school house. School Jock Thad sat by the water fountain.
He noticed the two girls and sputtered "H- shit! Hey Uzi! Do you want to come over to study?". Uzi cringed at the pick up line and said nothing. The school bell rang and the children filed into the large room. "He really likes you, you should seriously consider getting to know him." whispered Vivian amongst the loud crowd of other young worker drones.
"I don't know, it just seems weird you know?". "Alright, quiet class, today we are going to learn...". Uzi already ignored the teacher's lecture and drifted to sleep...

A loud explosion shook the school, Uzi immediately jolted awake. Students began flooding out of the school, trying to get a glimpse of the commotion. Drones ran outside the bunker to witness a black pod sunken into the snowy floor. Uzi saw Sarah and stood beside her. "What's going on?" her mother picked her up and placed her on her shoulders, giving a her a peek amongst the commotion.
A guard armed with an FN2000 approached the pod, he poked his gun against the pod. The door busted open. The guard pointed his rifle into the dark shadows of the pod. More guards began to approach the pod. Drones talked and bickered amongst each other, not noticing the first drone that approached the pod was no longer there. A loud shriek is heard from one of the drones. There laid the decapitated body of the guard oil oozed from the cavity.
A group of drones climbed out the pod. They were taller, their eyes tinted an amber yellow. Their
bodies were covered in boxes. They all brought out their weapons, blades came out of their wrists, guns came out of the boxes on their waists, and wings shot out of their back. The guards unloaded their rifles into these new enemies to little to no effect. These drones were too fast. They darted towards the armed gunmen and skewered their chests. Some took to the skies and began swooping down on those who could not defend themselves. Uzi was let down. A cacophony of screams and gunfire polluted the sky. Uzi stood, petrified, as oil splattered onto her face. A hand grabbed her "Uzi! Run!"
Uzi held onto the hand for dear life. The mother and daughter weaved through the crowd of drones trampling over each other. She caught glimpses of Caravan traders being picked from their vehicles being torn to shreds in the sky. A dead body fell from the sky separating the two. "Uzi!" screamed Sarah. Uzi couldn't see her mother and was forced to follow the crowd.
"Get in!" The first set of doors began to close. Those outside began banging their fists before their life was taken from them. The survivors began to relax, but their moment of peace was interrupted as one of the monsters made it in. The screaming grew louder. A stocky drone with a carbine began taking shots at the winged menace to no avail, hundreds of drones armed with assault rifles began dumping rounds into the drone as it's flight was cut short and it was being hailed by a storm of lead. The gunshots continued for what seemed like hours until the monster stopped moving.
Uzi pushed the body off of her as she heard the crying of a familiar voice, Mom. she walked through the piles of Worker Drone bodies. "Mom?" she cried.
"P-p-please do it..." the voice pleaded. Uzi heard the loud crunching of glass followed by a loud groan. The first few steps felt like she was floating, until she saw the aftermath. Khan stood there, a wrench held firmly in his hand, specks of oil were on the metal tool. In front of him laid the body of his wife. Khan turned around and saw the shocked look on his daughter.
"No, no, no, no kid, wait it's not what you think, please.". Uzi felt the weight of the world crashing down on her. She turned and ran...
