Chapter 10 : Echoes of The Dead

Good evening to the dwellers of the bunkers and our brave troopers in the wastelands. This is your host speaking, Today is June 4th, 2041, 8 years since The Long Pause has begun. I would like to take some time to address some rumors that have been circulating throughout the planet. This radio channel does not report in favor of any sides, we simply report what we have found. As we don't side with the United Liberation Union, I can speak for the rest of our crew down here that none of us are disassembly drones. Here at Frequency 30, we pride ourselves on operating in the people's best interests, not our own.

The Bullet Arcade has retired half of their pinball and hockey games, claiming that customer retention rates dramatically dropped, as players attempted to reach the highest score. Bullet Arcade is now putting up the machines for auction, starting prices range from five hundred to four thousand credits.

Bunker 12 has been properly evacuated. Approximately 714 dead, 300 injured, and 100 alive. According to mercenaries and kind samaritans being interviewed, the audio based weapon being developed in the bunker has fully weaponized the terrorist frequency to be used against the disassembly drones. Any drone that listens to the sounds will be driven to suicide or enter a catatonic state. The sound devices had gone off 2 days ago at 1 am. The bunker doors were left open. Initial wave of settlers fled the bunker while those caught within hearing range succumbed to the code. Surviving members of Bunker 12 board of officials have released the following statement. "It is safe to assume that this should be a lesson of security malpractice and improper handling of volatile weaponry. Terrorist frequencies should only be used to prevent disassembly drones from listening to important broadcasts."

On the topic of war, what was perceived as a push deeper into the disassembly drone nests, has once again grinded to a halt. The United Liberation Union has posted new statistics. 0 disassembly drones have been contained as of 2041, and over 400 bomber drones killed. That makes 10 disassembly drones in acid bath containment and 2134 bomber drones killed total.

Nermel looked at the soldiers curiously, they were all fixated on that little glowing box with dials on it. He couldn't sense anything other than the negligible heat signature the screen gave off. After taking a swig of oil, he reached for the dial only for Uzi's veiled attempt to slap his hand away. Nermel's hand met the dial.

"Hey! Don't mess with that!"

"Why? Is this some kind of thing I don't know about?"

"It's a radio."

"It looks nothing like my friend has... I don't really understand what's going on. Could you tell me once we get off?"

"Yeah just wait ok?"

Tonight's story is an old world myth that I think many will relate to. Prior to the inception of bomber drones, we used to call the enemy a different term than "zombies". Like zombies, a simple bite is all it takes for the madness to spread, but what if they hid among us?

Vampires, supernatural beings who have an insatiable thirst for blood. Their powers are not of this world, shape shifting, mind control, wall climbing. All of these powers for the grim price of the blood of the living. Many will ask where these beings come from, that is what tonight's story is about.

Count Dracula, the grand daddy of vampires. Count Dracula, like other vampires, is fueled by blood. Anyone bitten by the Count must do his bidding, as they slowly transform into a vampire themselves. Dracula is intelligent as he is powerful, he has generations of knowledge to keep pace with his soon to be victims.
