Six months ago was the worst night of Casey's life.
One second she and Izzie were happy. They weren't perfect, but they were happy.
The next, in a moment filled with the sound of squealing tires, blinding light, and the crunch of metal, everything changed.
The shattering of glass. The sirens. Pain. Then darkness. Casey woke up in the too white room, with the steady drone of the machines hooked up to her.
She looked around. How did I get here? She wondered.
Hospital room.
The next few weeks were a blur. A doctor explaining that she and Izzie had been hit by a truck that ran a red light. That she had suffered some head trauma, but would be okay. That Izzie had suffered from severe trauma, especially with her brain. That her brain had hemorrhaged so much they had to drill holes into her skull to relieve the pressure. That she hadn't woken up yet. That she might never wake up.
Then one day, as Casey was walking back into Izzie's room, she heard Elsa scream. Casey darted forward, expecting the worse. She was shocked to see Izzie with her eyes open.
She ran forward, touching Izzie's face gently with trembling hands.
Then Casey heard the three words that broke her heart.
"Who are you?"
