Over the next week, Casey visited Izzie everyday. She brought momentos of their memories in hopes of triggering a memory for Izzie.

Izzie looked at the photos, listened to the songs, carefully examined the slurpee straws, and watched the videos.

Yet, they brought back no memories. It was like she was studying a stranger's life. The giggling girl sitting in Casey's lap at a party in the video she had just watched was unfamiliar to her. Sure, she looked like her, but she felt no emotional connection to any of it.

For Izzie, the worst part was watching hope light up Casey's eyes, then watching it dim when Izzie shook her head no. She didn't remember loving Casey, but she could tell that Casey was a good person, and she hated disappointing her.

When it was time for Izzie to be released, she was reluctant to go home with Casey. Izzie ultimately went, to stop the hurt look that was all over Casey's big brown eyes, but it felt wrong.

That night she felt incredibly uncomfortable and was unable to sleep until Casey went to lay on the floor. Casey had listened to her toss and turn for hours, before she got up to lay on the floor because she wanted Izzie to get enough rest.

They would be staying with Casey's parents until the fall semester. It was already 6 weeks in to the spring semester, and Elsa had notified UCLA of the accident. They had been told to take their time, not to worry about the spring semester.

Casey was also hoping that since this is where they met and fell in love, that it would help Izzie remember. If nothing else, there would at least be some familiarity in the town.

As Izzie finally drifted off to sleep in the bed, Casey's mind was racing.

What could she do to make Izzie fall for her again? Take her back to the track at Clayton? Show her where they had their first kiss? Slurpee nights? Reading Stephen King in a blanket fort? Getting pizza and drinking too much soda?

Casey was ready to try anything.
