yangyang still felt sand in his shorts during the car ride home, hearing music softly playing from the radio of kun's car. with his own still being the shop, he had simply carpooled with his flatmate to the beach in the first place. he supposes kun won't mind about the leftover sand he's bound to leave behind — no matter how long all four of them washed with those hoses, it hardly worked.
(plus, it made their shoes awfully wet and hearing jian's suddenly squeaky flip flops was absolutely no fun.)
at least, he'll be able to properly wash off in their bathroom's shower. so all that sand in his hair while be gone and his hair won't be so damn itchy. he pulls out his phone to open his camera app just to snap a picture of the beautiful outside surroundings of the city at night.
"send me the picture," kun says, making yangyang look over at him. "i want to see it too."
"okay!" yangyang starts to smile.
a brief moment of silence. "i had fun today. did you?"
"yeah, of course i did," yangyang answers cheerfully. "i was obviously enjoying myself."
kun grins at that. "good. again, you guys are the best. i could never ask for better friends."
yangyang feels his heart flutter at that, though the word 'friends' proceeds to stab him in the heart... but, in reality, he agrees. yangyang would never replace jian and mingli for anything else. kun especially could never be replaced. no one is an angel like he is. kun's just so... perfect. he's understanding, kind, caring, friendly to the point everyone wants to be his friend. how could yangyang not have fallen hard for him?
yes, jian and mingli have their own good qualities too. jian is great at finding the right words to make your day better and has a great sense of humour while mingli is always willing to help. but kun outshone them in every way. but, speaking of jian and mingli, they had started to keep more to themselves during their beach trip at one point for some reason. with yangyang carrying the knowledge that mingli tends to eye jian when he thinks no one's looking, he can kind of figure out what that was about.
"want to stop and eat something to eat for dinner?" kun then asks out of nowhere. "something quick works."
"sure," yangyang nods, a bit surprised. "but aren't you supposed to — "
"— meet honghui?" kun finishes for him. "yeah, but he'll be fine. i'm hungry, anyways."
kun skipping out on meeting his boyfriend to spend more time with yangyang? could this day get any better?
they find themselves at a small restaurant in the small town, getting themselves some chips to share along with milkshakes for the both of them. for a few moments, they were simply eating hungrily and drinking in silence, not saying a single word to each other. the food's good, of course, the chips perfectly crispy and seasoned.
"we should go hiking," kun says suddenly out of nowhere, looking at yangyang with eager eyes. "that would be fun, wouldn't it?"
"yeah, it would," yangyang grins.
"hong doesn't like hiking because it too tiring for him," kun retorts and now he's frowning.
little princess, yangyang thinks with a hint of annoyance.
"so, i guess it's just us and the gang again," kun goes on and yangyang swears he'll combust from happiness. "eh, couldn't care less. i need to make up for all the times i missed."
"yes, i'd like that," yangyang smiles even more, if that was possible. he takes another sip of his milkshake, feeling the cold drink cool him. "when though?"
"sometime soon, not sure when," kun says thoughtfully. "i'll have to see."
yangyang looks forward to it. he can picture it now, all the beautiful surrounding landscape and when he turns his head, he sees a smiling kun right beside him with a glowing halo floating above his black haired head.

it's late at night when yangyang finds himself waking up, blinking a few times confusedly at his bedroom door. it's open, light flooding in from the crack. then, a figure appears, though he can't quite make out their face.
he squints. "kun?"
the figure does not immediately reply, instead standing there awkwardly in the doorway before sighing. then, he speaks, "sorry, double yang. i just... i probably shouldn't have expected — "
"no, come here," yangyang sits up in his bed, extending his arms outwards to encourage a hug. "what's wrong, gege?"
kun is slow to make his way over to the bed. yangyang feels the sudden warmth when the other hugs him just before he can hug him first, burying his nose into the crook of his neck. yangyang runs a comforting hand through kun's soft hair, his eyebrows furrowing. what had made him upset? "what's wrong, kun?"
"honghui got mad at me," kun says softly, as soft as feathers. the same soft voice yangyang has come to love.
yangyang tenses. "why?"
"because of earlier," kun answers in the same near quiet voice. "he got mad at me, claimin' i was purposefully avoiding him, but i just wanted to spend time with my friend. of course, he got even madder when said it was you."
yangyang pulls away, his eyes wide. "what?"
"yeah, i don't know why," kun frowns. "i need to get better. maybe i shouldn't have not came at all — "
"no, kun, you don't need to," yangyang says quickly. "no, you're fine! you're perfect even!"
"i'm not perfect, yang," kun replies quietly, his frown remaining. "nobody is."
how many times has yangyang been told that by his own parents? "but you are," yangyang tries.
"no — "
"— to me," yangyang goes on. "you're not a horrible boyfriend. in fact, honghui's lucky to have you as his. you're amazing, kun."
"yang..." kun starts, but his voice trails off.
"i mean it," yangyang goes on. "you're perfect. you're in no way a bad boyfriend. you're so caring, you're kind, you're understanding of everything, you're patient. i... who couldn't help but like you? love you, even?"
kun is silent, just gazing at the younger. his lips are just barely parted, his eyes just the tiniest bit widened.
"so, don't tell yourself that you're not perfect," yangyang says and it feels like he was almost indirectly confessing in a way.
he feels strong arms engulfed him in a hug after pulling him close, yangyang immediately responding. perhaps it was because kun was already there when he asks, "can i stay here for the night?"
