Camping alone in the woods had always been a distant dream, hidden in the corners of my mind amidst the hustle of corporate life. Now, here I was, staring into the starlit night, surrounded by the gentle rustle of leaves and the distant calls of nocturnal creatures, questioning if I had made the right decision. I definitely needed an excuse to embrace the wilderness and introduce some change into my life and now before me was the change I looked for.

As the light flickered around my campsite and shadows danced, I threw another stick into my crackling campfire. The flames grew bigger, warming me up and providing me with a sense of security that I longer for.

The moonlight stared down at me while I peacefully sat on a large fallen log, deep in the woods. The night owls were hooting and the gentle rustling of leaves in the trees provided a soothing sense of tranquility. Taking a break from my mundane office job, I ventured into this forest that I've always been yearning to explore. Uncovering its beauty, I discovered waterfalls, wildlife, and captivating views, perfect for the ever so demanding social medias.

Weariness weighed heavily upon me though and I reluctantly rose from my seat, tossing the final stick into the crackling fire. With a heavy sigh, I made my way to my sleeping bag, settling down. However, an unsettling sensation lingered within me, casting a shadow of unease over the tranquility of the night.

'Was my head spinning? Did I eat something bad and my stomach was hurting?' I thought, but my worries were about to be justified as the pebbles nearby started lightly rocking back and fourth and the ground began to rumble.

As I lay there, I heard a series of rumbles, followed by a loud crash from the ground about forty-four yards behind me. Instantly alert, I turned my head towards the source of the noise and quickly rose from my sleeping spot.

"What the hell was that?!" I felt myself shout out loud to no one. But the noises didn't stop. More rumbling and distant sounds of crushing, blowing and..explosions?! I was frightened. They sounded much further away, yet I still felt very uneasy.

'Should I...investigate-?' I thought but quickly reminded myself how such situations usually end. Despite my hesitation I dashed and grabbed my flashlight, making my way towards the sound of the commotion.

I ventured from a distance, drawn inexplicably closer. Foliage obscured most of the view, yet I discerned a handful of vibrant, sparkling purple lights amid the air's clashes. An unwelcoming scent filled the atmosphere.

Perhaps it was pure adrenaline, or more like pure stupidity, but I pushed on. I needed to know what was happening.

A few short steps and there it was. What looked to be a massive crater oozing with warmth and faint purple glow was imprinted into the vaporized grass. Among the fallen branches and broken rocks were hard to differentiate figures engaged in what looked to be combat.

Disgusting, disproportional and disfigured purple creatures swarming what more resembled a human, but a strangely shaped one. It was hard to see in the dark and with my flashlight reflecting off of the purple skin of the creatures, but I could fully view the ensuing fight.

The humanoid was extraordinary! It was fighting the alien-looking animals singlehandedly by using a strange pattern of dashes and jumps with incredible speed, which kicked up the surrounding dust and ash into the air. My eyes widened as I was quite baffled by the current situation.

The figure had a large arsenal of offensive attacks towards the creatures, using some form of laser beams to blow them up. They glowed in a bright purple with each shot fired, blinding me slightly with each one. I had no idea weather or not those were guns or some sort of alien technology I wasn't familiar with. Either way, I took cover and observed it more carefully.

I ocasionally peaked to glace at the fight. It was getting more and more heated with each passing moments. The animal resembling creatures looked to be lacking eyes or noses, but had powerful bites and growled like the aliens in your average sci-fi thriller. They were nasty bastards that used their sharp limbs and tendrils to try and break through the defences of the figure fighting them, but to no avail. They were getting decimated left and right.

Their battle raged on for a prolonged moment until the final of the creatures was defeated in an extremely violent display of purple blood which splattered in a big blob across the scorched grass. The sight was horrifying, but peaked my interest as well. What were those things?! Where did they come from?!

Though at first I sighed of relief, dread filled my eyes immediately afterwards as the figure glanced towards my flashlight, staring directly through the beam of light. When I got the chance to look at it from the front, I noticed it had a horrible head. Faceless like the monsters and expressionless leaving me mortified. Other than the slim upper body, I couldn't differentiate anything else before I turned around and took off running with my heart pulsating in my throat from pure dread.

My efforts were pointless in the end though, as a single misstep led me tumbling to the ground. The fall caused me to lose my flashlight in the dry leaves, especially stripping me of my only hope in this situation.

'This is it. This is how it ends. Years of life and experience gone in an instant.' I thought to myself, embracing the fate given to me by God. I heard the figure slowly approach me as I squeezed my eyes shut for the last time as I assumed.

I then heard a voice speak out to me...
