When I was little, my mom and dad told me if I'm not pretty, and if I don't keep my mouth shut, I won't get a husband, or make it far in life. I grew up always thinking you had to be pretty, and straight to make it far in the world. At least 'till I met Penelope. We met in the fifth grade, and let me tell you. She was not pretty at all. She was short, like 4'6" short. She had a big acne problem, even that young, but for some reason, all the cute boys liked her. I thought that if I hung out with her, I would get them to like me as well. When we finally did hang out, I got to see how much personality she has. She has no shame, and is funny and charismatic. I was really happy I ended up meeting her, because she changed my perceivement on the world. I didn't feel I had to be pretty to make it in the world. I started wearing less makeup, and clothes I liked. I started speaking my mind, and speaking out about things that aren't right. If I hadn't met penelope, I don't know what I would do with my life right now.
Yesterday, as we were.walking to get coffee before classes started I noticed Lukas, Penelope's crush, walking in front of us. I don't know this, but I think he may be either gay, or transgender. Either way, I have liked him for a really long time. Penelope was ranting on and on about how much she likes Lukas. I knew he was in front of us, but I wanted her to hear it from Lukas that he didn't like her, and that he likes someone else,or no one at all. Anyways, after he told her he didn't like her, she turned red. We were at the coffee shop a couple moments later, and we were chatting about what we wanted before we got up to the counter. When we got to the counter, a super hot barista took out order. Penelope was definitely fawning over him. She even got his number, while being  smooth about it. The only thing she didn't get, was his name. Until we got our drinks. Then I saw it on the cup it's self. I'm hoping school goes just as good as my morning is so far.
