Robert
I felt so much better.
Andy was still passed out in my arms.
Her left hand was on my chest next to her head.
An hour later
Andy woke up.
"Good morning, Mrs. Herrera-Sullivan."
She giggled.
"Good morning, Mr. Herrera-Sullivan."
We kissed deeply.
"We have to call in sick."
"You do that."
Andy got out of bed.
Ripley
I had fired McCallister and replaced him.
I was getting a call from Herrera.
I answered it.
"Hey, Herrera."
"Um... Robert isn't feeling any better. So, I'm calling both of us out sick."
"Hang up." It was Robert.
"Go back to bed. You aren't even supposed to be up this early."
He groaned at her.
"You kill me, babe."
"That's the point."
"Mm."
"Mm."
"Okay. I will notify Bishop and Maddox. Since Bishop is Captain and Maddox will take over for the day."
"Okay."
"Okay."
Herrera hung up.
"You know Robert probably isn't really sick, right?" Vic questioned.
"I know."
"Their neighbors are gonna kill them."
I laughed.
"Well, every now and then a married couple needs time to themselves, Vic."
"You know, they eloped a day before Captain Herrera..."
"Wait. What?"
She shook her head.
"You know he had Cancer but was in remission. He relapsed. Andy found out he had six months to live."
"He died of Cancer?"
"No."
"No?"
"He died venting a unstable roof to save Andy, Robert, and the rest of his family."
"Oh, my God."
"I wasn't in there. I was outside. I saw Andy break down when she found out he fell through the roof and into the fire."
"Where is his casket?"
"Um... His body isn't in it. His body was reduced to ashes. He was burned alive."
"No shit."
"Um... Angels of Heaven."
"Come on."
We left my office.
I drove to Angels of Heaven.
We were looking for Pruitt's tombstone.
