"Surprise!" Everyone yelled as I walked in the door from grocery shopping. I'm Emeris, Emeris Young, I'm 16 as of today, and I will be getting sold into slavery tonight.

"Thanks everyone," I hugged them all. My friends and family all looked sad. I stopped at my brother. He's 10 and a meanie head, but we're really close. I pulled him into what will be soon known as past.

"Emmy, you don't have to go, stay here, I'll go, I'm not scared," he hugged me. It broke my heart to hear him so broken.

"Listen Jacob, its me, or you, I have to go, I can't stand the thought of any vampire hurting you," I explained hugging him tight.

"Emeris, they'll kill you," he sounded broken.

"I'm a survivor kiddo, you know that, I promise, I'm going to get through this, I promise," I crossed my heart.

"You sure," he said checking my face for any signs of a lie. I nodded. "I'm gonna get you out of there, I promise, just wait for me, wait for me," he stated looking secure.

"I'll be fine, Jacob, he can be nice, you never know," he gave me the you-have-to-be-kidding look.

"Emeris, there's no such thing as a nice blood sucker. I don't want you to go," he said tears streaming down his face. I was doing good on not crying until that exact moment.

"I wouldn't go if I didn't have too, its for you kid, I can't let you go, I can't, I will be fine, I won't let any vampire break me. These tears are only for the love of my family, not of fear, I promise, they shall not see me cry," he nodded sucking up his tears.

"Ok Emeris, be strong," I nodded. "Promise me you will be strong," he yelled.

"I promise," ok this may be moving to fast for you. I'm sixteen, black hair, blues eyes and I'm 5'1, I'm being taken away at 12 midnight when my birthday is officially over, I'll be taken to be sold into slavery. If I'm not sold in the next two days I will be killed. My younger brother, I'd say little, but he's not little. I'm little. He's been flipping out since he found out I was being sold two months ago.

"Jacob, I need you to promise me some things now," I held his face in my hands.

"Anything," he sniffled.

"Take care of mom and dad, they need you," one child if each family is taken and sold at the age of 16, I'm going because my brother isn't going, I won't allow it.

"I promise," he nodded.

"One more thing, after tonight, no more tears, be strong for me, I'll be strong for you," he nodded. "Say it," I needed to hear it from his mouth.

"I promise," he said tears starting again.

"This is the last thing now, promise me this isn't the last time we'll see each other, you're my little brother, I will make sure of this," I smiled.

"I promise, I need you, you can't die," he hugged me tighter.

"I already told you, I will not, I cannot, not as long as you're here," I said rubbing his hair as he cried into me.

"This isn't a good bye, it's a see you later, I won't leave tonight without talking to you, I have something for you," he nodded. He wiped away his tears and ran out to get cake. I sighed and got off the ground looking around my room. I picked up my teddy bear and held it to my chest. I picked up a picture of the four of us, me, my dad, my brother and my mom. I took both and set them on my mom's side of the bed. I walked out and back to my birthday party. Everyone started leaving around 11:30 leaving just the four of us. I sat down next to Jacob who was sleeping. I just sat there in my dress with my hair in a messy bun atop my head. The knock on the door is what made my mom break down. I hugged her as my dad opened the door.
