*Ten Years Later*

“Happy birthday Bella!” It was my 28th birthday…I was…less than excited. I never really liked birthdays. One of the many bad habits I had gotten during the 18th year of my life. A year that was long past.

Jake handed me a small box. I opened it and found a gift card for Toys R Us…

“Jake!! This isn’t for me! You know that all of this money will be spent for Sydney and Sabreena and maybe a couple bucks will get to poor Maxie! Geez, I mean I know we have 3 kids and all but I thought today was supposed to be for m-.”

Jake cut me off with a kiss. We were in the bedroom and so he lifted me onto the bed and we started making out but it was cut short when Max stopped at the open door to our bedroom and screamed at the top of his 3 year old lungs “MOMMY AND DADDY ARE HAVING SHEX!!!”

Lately Max had been spending a lot of time with Jake, I hadn’t realized until now what they had spent all that time talking about.

Sydney came running up the stairs and when she spotted Max rolling around on the floor laughing she started laughing too. “Huahuahuhuahahahahuahahuhua!!”

Sabreena came up the stairs, took one look at the situation and said, “That’s disgusting.” Then she went down the hall.

How our kids differed from each other. Max was small, sweet and had a temper the size of Texas. Sydney, the eldest by 2 minutes 16 seconds, had just about the most contagious laugh in the world! She never studied, and sometimes that led her to some pretty interesting situations with the principal. Sabreena was the quiet one, she thought everything was “disgusting” and had a strange obsession with pasta. Give her a couple video games (preferably zombie related) and she would entertain herself for hours.

I got out of bed slowly, careful not to disturb the baby in my belly. I was due any day now and it unnerved me to see that the gift Jake had bought was cheaper than last years. Usually Jake had a couple hundred dollars saved for birthday gifts. Last time I check, our savings account only had $112. This gift card was $25 so that meant we had even less in our account now.

Jake had given up being a werewolf when we found out Max was coming along. Twin girls were one thing, but a boy following seven years later was too much to handle alone. We were still living in Forks. I went down to the kitchen and saw the invitation letter on the counter again and started to cry. Charlie had passed a month ago due to a major heart attack. I picked up the invitation to his funeral service and turned it over. There was a pain in my knees.

I fell.

My water broke.

Little dark spots appeared in my eyes.

The world went dark…again…felt like déjà vu…but I couldn’t remember from when…

No time to think about that.

I couldn’t breathe.

I heard sirens in the distance.

Screams came from right next to my ear.

“MOMMY!!!!!!!!”
