The air is cool and crisp. Its the time of the year between summer and fall. Kids and teens headed to school laughing and throwing pine cones at each other. I slip my headphones in and hit a random song. "Lost boy by Ruth B" plays. With the noise drowned out I breathe deep and enjoy the view of the moutains covers in pine trees. I walk around the block, to the townhouse coffee shop were I meet James every morning before school. James is my best friend. He's tall and lanky but still in shape. With redish brown hair and freckles. I push open the door to find him seated at our normal table, he's reading Lord of The Rings, I walk up behind him and kiss his cheek. Knocking his black glasses off of his nose. "Hey!" He mumbles as I plop down across from him. You nervous for today ? He asks me.
"A little" i say. I glance down at his own necklace, just a plain black circle. James turned 16 a few weeks ago. He still hasn't found his soulmate yet. Or her necklace hasnt been activated yet. When ever I ask him about it, he just looks at me and smiles, says he's not worried .
"You'll do fine" James says. You always over think.
I was about to give a witty response when the waitress comes with two coffees.
"James! You already ordered? You didn't have to do that"
Hey its your special day! He retorts, shoulder bumping me.
"Special day yeah okay" I grumble.
" Drink your coffee before you eat someone" James says giving my a sly grin.
I take a sip as we gather our stuff and head out the door. We usually walk the rest of the way to school together. But not today. Nope I head down the opposite road.
"Bye Jamie" I say waving.
"See ya" he says "don't throw up"
"Real Encouraging" I holler back at him without turning around.
I got this I think to myself as I cross the street. Its simple just a few questions and then they activate my necklace. Next thing I know I'm stranding in front of the doors. Just staring at the handle.
"You gonna open that? Or try and use your mind powers" an unfamiliar voice says.
I gulp and turn around.
