Security breach: Sun and Moon

A visitor

I awake on the ground. I rub my eyes as I sit up. Where's Moon? And Sun? I check my watch. It's 5:56 am. I've got to find Sun and Moon! I have got to get home. "Moon! Sun!" I yell out. I walk around the daycare and try to find them but no sign of them.  Maybe Sun is in the playplace. I climb up some colorful foam stairs and get past one of the slides. The playplace is really dirty. I see sticky, dried-up handprints of glitter glue and spilled juice boxes. Ew. Gross. From up here, I can catch a glimpse of Sun's room. I can see that he is recharging. So that explains where Sun is but where's Moon? I make my way out of the playplace and into the ball pit. I walk to the security desk as it's the only place I haven't checked. I hear some shuffling and a bell jingle underneath the desk. Moon? I walk behind the desk as Moon reaches out to me and yells, "Boo!" I don't even flinch. "Ha. Nice try, Moon. You can't fool me! I already saw you there." I say with a sly grin. Moon gets up from under the desk and says, "Aww. I really wanted to scare you!" He frowns. "Aw. Okay, how about I make up for it?" I suggest. "And how will you do that, Callie?" Moon asks, curious. I motion for him to come down. He crouches down next to me. I close my eyes and give him 3 small pecks on the cheek. When I open my eyes, I see that his blue hearts have turned on and are the deepest blue I've ever seen. I look down at my shoes, a bit embarrassed to have done that. "Well, Callie. You were right. You did make up for it." Moon tells me. I grin and look up. "Um, is Sun done charging yet?" I ask, trying to change the subject. Before Moon can answer someone else speaks. "Yes I am!" shouts Sun. "Sunny!" I run up to him and hug him. "Glad you're back!" I exclaim. "Callie! Nice to see you too!" Sun says. I tug on Moon's arm. "Moon! The pizza plex opens at 6:00! I've got to go home!" I tell him. Sun looks concerned. "But Callie! I don't want you to go. I want you to stay!" Sun holds on to my arm. I give a pained expression because I honestly don't want to leave either. "I know; I want to stay too but.-" Moon cuts in. "Wait Callie but what about your mom? Won't she, um, hurt you again?" Moon reasons. He has a good point. "Well, that's true but I.-" This time Sun interrupts me. "No! You can't go back! We promised we would protect you." Life with Sun and Moon does sound tempting, especially with Moon in the picture. "Yeah, but where would we even live?" I ask. They fall silent. "Well... I've saved up money over the years. People leave money all around the pizza plex." Moon says slowly. "You have savings right?" Sun asks me. I do. I've been meaning to get my own place for a while now. And since I turned 18 a few months ago, it's all I ever wanted and possible. "Sunny, I can't think about that right now. I got to get home!" I say impatiently. Sun looks hurt. My expression softens. "Sun, sorry. You know I have to leave but I'll be back. I promise." I tell him. Sun looks at me hopefully. I stand up heading to the daycare entrance to leave. Sun and Moon follow me. "Moon, Sun. Thanks for helping me today, especially you Moon. I really like you guys, a lot. I can't wait to come back here." I say. For some reason, I hesitate before hugging them. "We love you lots too Callie." Moon sighs. Sun says nothing but his face crumples. "Oh, cmon Sun. I'll be back!" I say, trying to lighten the mood. Sun gives me a forced smile. "Okay..." His voice trails off. Moon's blue hearts look a bit sad too. I put my hand on the door handle and pull it open. Or at least try to. The door won't budge. "What the.-" I mutter but I hear a voice that comes from outside the door. "Well, well. Leaving so soon, Callie?" The voice asks. "What? Who are you?" I shout so that whatever is outside can hear me. "Hmm. I'm no one important. Besides, I can't reveal my identity to you. Just call me..." The voice pauses for a moment and resumes. "Vanny."
