It didn't take us long to reach Cleveland. We checked into a hotel and tried to sleep. I had slept a little on the way down but I still couldn't believe all of this was happening so it was hard for me to fall asleep.
Drake had decided we would sing "Imagine" by John Lennon together, since we both knew it.
Before I knew it it was almost show time. Drake was opening for Hanson so I got to meet them which blew my mind too. Definitely cool guys.
My whole body was numb and I was still in shock when Drake kissed my cheek and went out on stage. He was gonna do a few songs then introduce me and we'd sing together. We had rehearsed a few times and had nailed it, but now I was panicking. I was going to screw up, I just knew it. I wasn't a performer, I had never sang on a stage before, let alone for an audience.
I watched in awe as Drake killed it onstage. He had an amazing voice, which only made me more nervous.
Then I heard the first few chords of "Imagine" and my stomach dropped.
"If you guys don't mind," he said. "I'm going to have a good friend of mine join me on stage for this next one. Please give it up for the lovely, Gemma Curtis."
I slowly walked out on stage and was greeted with applause. Drake kissed my cheek and whispered, "You're gonna do great!"
Then Drake began singing:
"Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today..."
He turned to me and I took a deep breath and started singing:
"Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace..."
The crowd cheered and I smiled. Drake winked at me and we sang together:
"You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one."
The crowd cheered even louder.
Drake was beaming as he began singing again solo:
"Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger."
Then me:
"A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world..."
Then us together again:
"You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one."
The crowd applauded and cheered so loudly, I thought surely I would go deaf.
"Gemma Curtis, everybody" Drake said into the mic, and kissed my cheek again.
"I told you," he whispered, proudly. "You killed it."
I walked backstage and squealed.
"You did great!" Taylor said to me, patting me on the back. "You have a great voice!"
"Thanks," I said, laughing. I was still in shock. "I can't believe that just happened."
"Well, believe it," Zac said. "I was a little unsure when Drake first introduced us. I thought he might have lost his mind a little, but that dude knows what he's doing."
"Definitely," Isaac agreed, and then they headed off to get ready for their set.
I watched the rest of Drake's set by myself. He was so good, I really couldn't believe that I had just went out there and sang with him; and that people took me seriously.
Drake finished up with "Found a Way," then made his way backstage again.
"You were so amazing!" he said, as soon as he got back to me. He picked me up in a bear hug and spun me around, then kissed me.
"I wanted to do that sooner," he said, after we separated and he set me down. "But I couldn't with an audience."
I smiled, "Is this really happening?"
"It is," he said. "I told you things were going to start looking up for you."
"You did," I said, shaking my head in disbelief. "I don't even know how to thank you."
"Don't worry about it," he said. "I just got you in the right direction. You're going to do all the rest."
I threw my arms around him and kissed him. I couldn't help myself.
"There is no way I'm going to sleep tonight," I said, pulling away from him.
"Shall we go get a drink?" he asked, offering his arm.
"We shall," I said, linking my arm in his. We slipped out the back door and went back to our hotel, more specifically, the bar in our hotel.
He ordered us two drinks while I grabbed us a table. I texted CeCe to tell her about it. I knew she would just be heading into work.
"OMG girl," she texted back. "Are you serious?"
"Totally," I replied. "It was so amazing! I can't believe it."
"Did someone get it on video?"
"I have no idea," I replied. "But if so I will send it to you immediately!"
"You better! Give that hottie of yours a kiss for me, haha."
"Sure thing," I replied.
Drake returned to the table with our drinks and I put my phone in my purse.
"I keep thinking I'm going to wake up any minute now," I said, as I took a drink.
He laughed, "You're not dreaming! This is your life now. Tomorrow we're heading to Chicago."
He held his glass up to toast, I clinked my glass to his.
"I'll drink to that!"
Several drinks later we were heading up back up to our rooms. We were both a little drunk.
"Look out world," I shouted as we made our way to the elevator. "I'm gonna be a star!"
"Yeah you are!" Drake shouted, laughing.
He hit the up button, and pulled me into a kiss. The elevator doors opened but we didn't separate as we got in it.
"So rude," a woman said, as we bumped into her as she was getting off.
We giggled, between kisses, but didn't part.
Still kissing he led me to his room, opened the door quickly, we slipped inside and he kicked the door shut behind us before leading us to the bed.
