"What the fuck?" I say as I land on my ass, having been pushed over on the footpath. The dude who pushed me didn't even seem to notice, he was running down the street holding a Shrek doll above his head like motherfucking Simba. A guy with a man bun follows closely behind, skipping along the path and singing Hakuna Matata.
"Oh shit," A skinny blonde says, jogging over. "Are you okay?" he asks, glancing at the two people in front of him.
"Yeah, I'll be fine. I've had a lot worse happen, trust me." I say, shaking my head and taking the hand he offered me. I pull myself up and look behind him as a man with brown hair that was dyed at the ends walks over, being the last in the group.
"Colby, make sure she's okay, I have to chase these dumbasses," The blonde says, jogging over to the other two who were now dancing on the top of a wall. The last guy comes up to me, offering a smile.
"Oh my god, you're Colby Brock," I say, then immediately mentally facepalm. I just told him his name, how fucking idiotic can I be? "Sorry, don't normally get knocked over by famous people," I say, still kicking myself.
"Yeah, well, we don't normally make a habit of knocking random people over in the street. Thinking back on it, we probably shouldn't have given Jake the bag of gummy bears," He says, shaking his head and laughing softly. "Well, now that it's clear you know my name, what's yours?" He asks, looking at me.
"My name is Ivy, and from what I know about Jake, he would've gotten his hands on sugar anyway," I say, chuckling.
"Ivy, huh? That's pretty, it matches your eyes." He says, indicating my green eyes with the slightest tint of brown in the middle. "Well, Ivy, I should probably catch up to them." He says, nodding his head towards where the guy I now recognised as Sam was trying to coax Jake and Corey off of the wall, having little success.
"Yeah, okay, nice to meet you," I say, nodding as he turns and walks off. I'm about to walk off when I notice a brown wallet on the floor. I pick it up and open it, trying to see if I can identify who it belongs to. Colby's face stares back at me from the driver's licence, and as I'm looking, a pile of cash falls onto the floor. I quickly pick it all up and mentally calculate that there is about $500 in there. I quickly put it all back in and turn around again to see Colby approaching his friends, so I go and jog up to him. He turns around to look at me, a small smile forming on his face. "Hey, Colby, you left your wallet over there accidentally," I say, giving it to him.
"Crap, thanks, that has a bunch of cash in there, a lot of people would've kept it," He says, analysing me.
"Yeah, I know, but as broke as I may be, I'm not a thief," I say, turning to walk away.
"Even though I just met you, I think you're too smart to be broke. Can I ask why?" He asks as I look behind him. Sam is still trying to get Corey and Jake off the wall, where they are now re-enacting the scene from Titanic. Jake is facing away from us, arms outstretched, as Corey holds him by the waist behind him, singing the theme song. It looks like it could take a while, so I figure I have some time.
"Um, yeah, sure. I was studying at uni to become a nurse, and while I was doing that I had a part-time job as a mortuary assistant. But I had the night shift, and although I was meant to be alone, people kept coming up to me and bugging me. I quit after only three nights and got another part-time job at Victoria's Secret, which has much fewer dead people. I graduated from uni and went on to become a nurse, but the hospital was a bad environment with the amount of deaths, so I ended up having to quit. Now I'm in the middle of jobs, as I'm trying to become a full-time medium because a lot of other jobs are just too hard. It's been hard trying to take off though, so the only source of income I have at the moment is my job at VS"
"Wait, hold up, you're a medium?" Colby asks.
"Yes, I am, why?" I ask, not seeing where he is going with this. Before he can answer, I run behind the wall, directly behind where Jake is standing. He's walking backwards and dancing. "Paint me like one of your French girls," He says, as he and Corey erupt into laughter that abruptly stops when Jake walks backwards off the edge of the wall.
"JAKE! Holy shit are you okay?" Sam yells, running around the wall to see Jake and me on the floor.
"Yeah I'm fine, this girl broke my fall. Are you okay?" He asks, turning around to me.
"Yeah I'm fine, you aren't as heavy as you look," I say, standing up and brushing myself off. Colby looks at me weirdly. "What?" I ask him.
"How on Earth did you know that was going to happen? You ran behind the wall before he even started walking backwards!" He exclaims, still insanely confused.
"Some of my thoughts are prophetic, which is part of the reason I had to quit working at the hospital. When you got a feeling that someone was going to die of liver damage when you were working on someone who came in with a brain tumour it could get confusing. I had a feeling he was going to walk off the wall." I respond, not seeing the big deal. I see Sam and Colby whispering to each other and begin to feel uneasy. "What?" I ask, not wanting to be kept in the dark any longer.
"This is going to sound weird, but what are you doing next week?" Sam asks, with all the guys looking at me.
"Nothing much, probably just working. Why?" I ask, not seeing what this has to do with me.
"Well, the guys and I are all flying to South Korea on Saturday to visit an abandoned psychiatric hospital, and a medium would be really useful." Colby pipes up, and the wheels in my head start turning.
"Wait a second, are y'all talking about the Gonjiam psychiatric hospital?" I ask, feeling excited.
"Yeah, how the fuck do you know that?" Corey asks, rubbing his arms. I'm guessing he's got chills, he seems to get them a lot.
"I've been wanting to go there for like forever! I had organised a trip with some friends, but they all wimped out and rebooked their flights to Hawaii without telling me. On the day I called them, they told me they were flying to Hawaii, so I wasted the flight as there wasn't enough time to rebook or refund." I say.
"They sound like shitty friends," Jake says, shaking his head.
"Yeah, they are, but if y'all are going there then I can't wait for the video!" I say, genuinely happy for them.
"Well, we were wondering if maybe you wanted to come with us?" Sam asks, looking at me hopefully.
"I would love to guys, really I would, but like I said, I'm broke. I really can't afford to fly to South Korea at the moment, or miss work." I respond sadly.
"We'll pay for you, it would be way more useful for us to have a medium anyways, it's really not that big of a deal," Colby says, trying to persuade me. "Look, you don't even have to decide anything right now, just come back to the trap house with us for the research part at least." He sees me start to shake my head and quickly interjects; "Please Ivy? I know you want to."
"Fine. But I can't promise anything," I say, shaking my head as the guys cheer.
"We know," Colby says, leading us all to his car.
