Corey takes off running down the hall despite our attempts to stop him. We knew they were futile because Corey would never leave his sister, yet we tried anyway.
"Corey stop! That's not her!" I yell after him, struggling to keep up as he sprints ahead.
"You don't know that!" He answers, picking up the pace. He hears another shout from the right and veers down a separate hallway. Jake overtakes me, steadily speeding up to try and catch our friend.
"Really? Down here? This is the trauma ward!" I shout as I spot a sign for this hallway. I continue running after them though, hearing Sam and Colby's footsteps behind me. "Stupid haunted hospital. Running down a creepy hallway towards our predicted deaths. Why is there a demon ghost child here? Why can't there be butterflies? I'd much prefer to follow butterflies." I grumble to myself, panting slightly with exertion. Suddenly, a set of footsteps stop, and then Jake's as he catches up, and the hallway is silent ahead of us. We ease off our pace, slowly stopping as we see Jake and Corey standing at a dead end.
"Where is she? I definitely heard her down here!" Corey states, scanning the walls frantically.
"It wasn't real bro. She's safe, at home, exactly where she was when you left her. It was just a cruel trick." Jake reasons, placing his hand on Corey's shoulder to try and reassure him.
"Your fear was losing a loved one, right? Maybe that was it?" Colby asks, a twinge of hope in his voice.
"No, that doesn't make sense. All other fears we almost died. Why would Corey's just be some traumatic screaming? No offence," Sam says.
"None taken," Corey responds.
"I agree with Sam. It's too easy. There's got to be something else," I state, racking my brain. "Why would it lead us down this hallway? No one else is here with us, and it's a dead end. It obviously had a reason, because it lured us here with screams, but I don't understand the play here."
"Whatever the reason, I vote we leave. Like now." Sam says, interrupting my train of thought. "I don't want to get even more traumatised in this damn trauma ward, thank you very much." We all agree and start moving back the way we came, sticking close to the wall. Sam leads the way and gets to the corner we rounded to get into the trauma ward. "Well, that's weird." He muses, turning on the spot.
"What is?" Colby asks, confused.
"I'm almost 100% we went around this corner, but it's a dead end," He says, walking in the opposite direction. "Great. And so is this. Did we miss a corner?"
"No, it was a solid wall all the way up here. Are you sure there's not like a wall-looking door there?" Jake asks, and we stare at him.
"Why don't you go see if there's a wall-looking door there, because I have no idea what the fuck that means," Sam answers, shaking his head. Jake walks up to both new dead ends, pushing hard and grunting somewhat excessively.
"Yeah okay. No wall-looking door."
"Thanks, captain obvious!" Corey exclaims.
"No need to be sarcastic. I was just stating a fact," Jake retorts, his voice going slightly posh.
"Okay, we don't really have time for this," I say, standing in between them to break up what will turn into an argument.
"We need to retrace every step and see if there's a door or a walkway we..." Sam says, but his voice fades and becomes muffled as a sharp pain tears through my leg. I cry out, my leg buckling, and Jake catches me, lowering me to the ground. I tear off the bandage around my leg and see that the wound has reopened, and is bleeding profusely.
"Okay, so I think we figured out what Corey's fear is," I say, chuckling because if I don't laugh, I'll cry. For some reason, I get no response.
"Guys?"
A/N:
Okay guys, I'm so bad at updating. I've had exams and have been writing songs so actually haven't had a lot of free time (plus I've been watching the 100 and procrastinating so...)
Anyway!
There are a lot of continuity errors in the story. Whoops. I'll fix them when I edit the story but for now, if you see one, pls tell me in the comments or send me a dm so I can make a note of it.
That's it for now, but I will hopefully update again really soon! (I do actually mean that I'm starting the next chapter after I post this one.)Lots of love,
Nikki <3764 words
