Chapter 3
To be content when you can't have
Lexis and Deandre slept the whole day away, cuddled in the bed with each other. Around 9:30 in the evening, Dre woke up to a ringing cell phone. He knew it was his, but he was annoyed, because it woke him out his sleep. Lexis was completely draped over his chest now, but she woke up as well. She didn’t bother to move though. She was much more comfortable on top of Deandre, than any plush California king size bed. He hated to admit it, with all the shit she put him through during the past week, but it felt right to have her there, close to his heart.
He got his phone off the night stand, and answered in a sleepy voice.
“Wattup?” he said, not checking who had called. That was rare.
“Nigga get yo ass up! You know what time it is?” Alonzo asked, laughing as he heard Dre’s deep voice thick with sleep.
“Damn, Lonzo. I’m tired as hell.” He laughed too. Lexis began to rise off him, not wanting to be a bother while he took his phone call, but he tightened his grip on her, pulling her down, so she stayed close to him.
“You not goin’ no where this time, Lexi. So, you better keep ya ass where you belong, aight?” Dre said away from the phone, making her smile wide and nod. She got it, and she couldn’t be any happier.
“Yes baby! I love you so much.” She covered his chest with kisses as he got back into the phone call, tingles flowing all through him as she hugged his body tight, as if he’d disappear if she didn’t.
Alonzo felt bad hearing them all caked up, because what he was about to say was gone crush their happy little world, but he had to look out for Deandre. Dre had saved his life once, and he owed it to him.
“Look, ima get right to it, I owe you my life, and yours too, so I need you to listen to these instructions carefully. Don’t ask no questions. You trust me?” he said, just making sure, deciding he’d wait to tell him.
“Yeah man, wassup?” Dre said, curiously.
“Aight, you and lil mama go to Jason’s Deli on Peachtree. It’s gone be a red envelope in the paper towel dispenser in the men’s room. You gone have to go in and get it. Don’t open it up until you get to the location taped under the counter with the key. Do not lose that shit! It’s specially made, or something. When you get there, y’all chill out for three days, and don’t leave, Dre. I will come by on the third day and tell you everything, but y’all got to do everything I say.” He said.
Dre was confused, but he had known Alonzo for a long time now, and knew he had his back no matter what, so he trusted him. But, he had so many questions running through his mind.
“Aight, when?” he asked, Lexis looking up at him curiously. It was pitch black, so he didn’t notice.
“A.S.A.P. Everything’s there.” Alonzo said, and then hung up. Dre knew something wasn’t right. Maybe he shouldn’t trust Alonzo, but he had no reason not to. Little did he know, Lonzo was saving his life, risking his own, like Dre had done just a year ago.
Lexis had fallen asleep again on his chest, cooing soft snores, and he didn’t want to leave that bed. He rubbed her back, about to wake her, when he heard a vibration. His phone was sitting right beside him, so he knew it wasn’t his. It was Natasha’s. He decided to give up on that for now. She was acting all brand new and shit, so he was gone chill out.
He carefully picked up Lexis, and got out the bed. She was half-woke, subconsciously wrapping her legs around his waist, and wrapping her arms around his neck. He smiled as she mumbled into his neck.
