Suddenly Engaged to the Crown Prince

Prologue

Victoria Charlotte Osborne was the epitome of grace and elegance. With a face that could rival goddesses of legends, she was nicknamed as the empire's shining star.

Trained since the tender age of four. Victoria excels in all of her field such as etiquette, academics, music, magic and art. Aside from early training, she was a gifted child.

Little did she know, no amount of training can prepare her for rejection.

Victoria blamed herself for not noticing soon enough. Maybe, she could have saved herself from humiliation.

"Unacceptable! How dare you bring another woman to your engagement ceremony with my daughter!" The duke of Osborne screamed angrily at Ethan who was with a girl wearing the same ball gown as Victoria.

Victoria was stunned, but more than that she feels insulted. After she waited for years until Ethan returns from the battlefield, this is what she gets.

"Forgive me, your grace I cannot marry your daughter for I am in love with someone else!" Ethan said bravely and even held the hand of the scared woman beside him.

"Fool! Take back what you said and apologize to the duke!" Ethan's father the duke of Montgomery screamed at his son. His neck was turning red and his veins seemed like could pop at any second.

"Oh darling, I didn't expect this to happen to your ceremony." The duchess whispered to her daughter with a sad voice and tenderly wrapped her hands around her shoulder.

"Ethan, aren't you apologizing to the wrong person?" Victoria asked him coldly. For the first time in her life her composure felt so fragile that one more provocation and she might explode.

"Tori..." His eyes looked regretful but he didn't waver. He was indeed in love. "I deeply apologize."

Victoria couldn't understand why Ethan could have chosen anyone over her. She made sure she was perfect in every single way. She holds the reputation for it. So why is she being rejected now?

Was she lacking something? Was the years of hard work still not enough?

"This isn't what I expected from an engagement party." Everyone's attention went to the man standing at the grand entrance. To everyone's surprise it was the crown prince of the empire.

"Your Highness!" The duke of Montgomery was the first to react. Everyone else was distressed at first but proceeded to pay respect to the crown prince. Victoria felt embarrassed that even the crown prince will witness this utter humiliation.

The crown prince expression looks colder as he stood there and scanned the venue. His eyes went from Ethan, his lover, the duke and finally Victoria.

"Duke Osborne? This man broke off the engagement to the Lady, am I right?" He asked the duke his eyes not wandering from Victoria

The duke cannot speak at first due to embarrassment but then said a cold hard yes.

"This mean that the lady is single right now. Am I right?" His lips was now moving to a smirk.

"Yes?" The duke was now confused when he answered. What was the crown prince up to?

"I don't mean to humiliate the lady. I just wanted to make sure of facts." He says then started to make his way to Victoria.

Silence engulfed the ball room. Everyone was almost not breathing. The tension was so high. What was the crown prince up to?

Finally, the crown prince reached Victoria and he whispered just enough for her to hear.

"Apologies if I did not prepare a ring. I did not know that I would be proposing today. But if I may" He says as he took her hand kneeled on one bended knee.

Everyone including the duke gasped. Even Victoria lost composure for a moment and took a step back. "What are you doing?" She whispered.

"I'm saving your reputation." He smirked. "You should repay me by spending your life with me. What do you think?"

Victoria gulped at what he said. She thought the the crown prince was losing his mind for a moment.

"Lady Victoria Charlotte Osborne, the shining star of the empire. Will you grant me  the honour of being my wife and the empress of this empire?" He asked

"Tori, don't!" Ethan's voice erupted amongst the crowd. Victoria's eyebrows furrowed lightly and remembered her anger to her ex-fiance. Feeling vindictive at the moment, she smiled elegantly to the crown prince and said.

"Yes, I will" And that's how she suddenly became engaged to the crown prince
