Violet.
It was almost like being under a spell. And every time that I blinked, Harry and I were getting further and further away from the school. I can't control the instincts inside, scolding me for giving in. And I was doing nothing about it. But in a way I felt powerful, in control. Finally in control of something in my own life. Not being a perfect student or daughter. Being free for once.
"Where are you taking me?" The words came out of my mouth without even thinking it over.
Harry stayed silent for a few seconds before answering.
"Somewhere that I come to think." He simply said.
We were nearing some trees behind the school's football field. The warm air tingling my face as we walked through the grass. The smell of cigarette smoke came into my senses, I looked over examining where it was coming from.
"You really shouldn't smoke you know." I said softly.
"It takes your mind off things. I only smoke when I'm stressed."
I nodded in response.
After another minute of peaceful silence, he stopped at a tree. He dropped his cigarette onto the ground, making sure to get the rest of the fire out by stepping on it a few times. He went behind the tree and came back with two fold out chairs. He unfolded them both, and offered me one. I mumbled a thanks and sat down, along with Harry.
"You have chairs out here?"
"Yeah. I come out here often. And always have that spare one. Just in case I ever have company." He smiled warmly after the last sentence.
I took a good look around the area. I know why Harry comes out here, it's peaceful. Just the beautiful sound of nature.
"So tell me about yourself." He said out of the blue.
"What about me?"
"What are your hobbies?"
"I don't really go out much. I like to write, draw. That's about it. Oh, and listen to music." I smiled.
"What kind of music?"
I thought for a second.
"Basically anything but rap. Coldplay, The 1975, Nirvana." I finally responded.
"Oh my god, Nirvana's great." He agreed.
I looked up at him, amused.
"You like them too?"
"No, I love them. Kurt is my inspiration."
I smiled to myself. Finding someone who enjoys the same music is like finding your soulmate.
"Do you have family, like any siblings?" I asked him curiously.
He became tense and started to fidget a bit.
"Um, can you ask a different question maybe. Please?"
"Uh sure I'm sorry...I didn't mean to-"
"It's fine," he said a bit harshly, "it's fine."
After a few seconds he calmed down. I'm not sure what made him get so awkward, but now I know not to bring it up again.
"I'm sorry," he paused, "for snapping at you like that. You ditched class just to talk to me and I treat you like a douche, it's just a hard topic for me."
He sounded sincere when he apologized. Almost guilty.
"Don't be sorry."
He just nodded and looked down at his shoes.
