The two packed their bags and slung them over their shoulders, returning back to the hotel and placing their bags in their respective rooms. The two went to the lobby, looking for the rest of team USA. As soon as the two walked in together, the ducks and newcomers alike began to whistle.
"Why are they acting like this?" Indiana asked, leaning towards Adam.
"Probably because we are, y'know, coming to dinner together," explained Banks, leaning to the side towards her.
"Oh," Indiana felt her face become pink for the thousandth time today. The pair separated, Banks taking a seat next to Charlie and Indiana finding a spot near Julie or Connie. The restaurant was full of various hockey teams from around the world. This was encouraged by the Junior Goodwill Games in order for different countries to engage in professionalism and create connections internationally. It would have been a good idea, however some rivalries seemed to be too difficult to maim. Team Iceland, despite not having played team USA yet, glared at them as they ate their meal.
"Sick my ass," Connie began.
"You were hanging out with Banks!" said Julie aloud. Indiana shushed her quickly.
"We were not hanging out," Indiana denied.
"Oh, shut up, you totally were, I can see it on your face. So, what happened?" Connie asked. Indiana looked at Julie for help, but her twin was just as interested in hearing the story.
"We just went to practice hockey," explained Indiana.
"Yeah, and?" Julie egged her twin on.
"And nothing. We just played hockey. It was fun," expressed Indiana.
Suddenly, a manly voice from next to Connie began, "So how do we feel about Mr. Banks, Indiana?" Averman placed his face in his hand, smiling at Indiana innocently.
"Shut up Averman," Indiana said.
"No, Indiana, we need to know. Will this relationship affect the team?" Connie mocked the interviewer from earlier that day.
"No Mr. reporter, considering there is NO relationship," Indiana huffed.
On the other side of the table, Charlie had begun pestering Adam about the girl who sat only a few chairs down.
"There's no way you guys could be just friends. I mean-- just look at her," said Charlie.
Adam scoffed, "Sounds like you'd want to date her instead."
"Nah, I decided to give you the chance," Charlie joked, Adam pretending to laugh and then glaring at the boy.
"She's hot, Banks. Her and her sister," stated Portman. Adam rolled his eyes at the boy's comments.
"Okay guys, I get it. She's attractive. But what I also get is that we are in a national tournament right now. Y'know, playing that sport called 'hockey.'" Banks stated, clearly annoyed with their pestering.
Guy charmed in, "There's no rule that says you can't date and play hockey, Banks."
Adam scoffed, "Yeah, you'd be the one to know. How is Connie doing, by the way?" Guy shrugged and ran his hands through his hair, giving up on the conversation. "I have to focus on hockey so I can--"
"Get scouted, get into a good high school and then play college hockey. I've heard this song and dance before," commented Charlie. Adam sighed, deciding to remove himself from the conversation.
Indiana wasn't faring so well with the taunting on her side of the table either. "I'm going to grab some food." Indiana said, walking to the buffet. Adam watched her walk past him as he decided to join her at the buffet table.
A whistle could be heard from one of the guys, "Short leash eh Banksie?" asked Guy, Connie immediately whacking him with a napkin. Adam rolled his eyes and continued to follow Indiana to the buffet, grabbing a plate and grabbing food across from her.
"So, they bothering you down there? About us missing the beach?" Adam asked, looking across the buffet table at Indiana who had started to grab some Caesar salad.
"Kinda, they're being weird. What about you? The guys bothering ya?" Indiana asked.
"Yeah, they haven't let it go since we entered the room," Adam stated, chuckling.
"Well, you didn't exactly help your case following me up here," Indiana pointed out.
Adam sighed, "You're probably right. But hey, I don't mind, plus, I'm hungry."
Indiana smiled, "So we play Italy tomorrow, right? You think they'll mind if I eat the rest of the hotel's complementary pasta?"
"I wouldn't do that if I were you. You know how Italians get after missing out on pasta, they'll be gunning for you tomorrow," joked Adam.
Indiana laughed, scooping up some pasta into her plate, "Yeah I guess that's just a risk I'm willing to take." With that, Indiana took her dish and walked to the drink station, leaving Adam alone with the pasta.
"If it isn't the queen duck herself," a strongly accented man stepped next to Indiana as she began filling a cup with water. The boy smirked at her, grabbing a plastic cup of his own and filling it up right next to her.
"Can I help you?" Indiana asked, one eyebrow raised at the boy who stared down at her.
"I just wanted to introduce myself. I'm Gunnar. Gunnar Stahl. And you are?" Stahl knew her name, he just wanted to seem less intimidating in order to lower her guard down.
"I'm--" Indiana began.
"Not interested," A voice from behind her stated. Indiana spun her head to see an angry looking Adam staring back at the boy. He set his plate down on the table and stood behind Indiana, his arms crossed as he maintained eye contact with the Icelander.
Gunnar raised his arms, innocently, "I was just trying to make conversation."
"You can go make conversation with the rest of your team, not mine" commented Adam. Gunnar Stahl laughed at the boy, backing up slowly.
"I guess I'll just talk to her after we beat your asses on the ice in a few days," the boy continued, muttering a few foreign words that neither Indiana nor Adam understood. Gunnar's smile only widened as he saw Adam's expression toughen. The boy finally turned before heading back to his table.
Indiana scoffed at Adam, whose gaze never left the Icelander. "I can take care of myself, Banks."
Adam chuckled, his facial expression finally returning back to normal as he examined Indiana's, "I know-- but you shouldn't have to." The boy grabbed water before heading back to his side of the table, leaving Indiana speechless. Indiana followed moments later, sitting back next to Connie and Julie.
"Did that Icelander try to talk to you?" Asked Connie angrily, beginning to stand up.
Indiana placed her hands on Connie's shoulders, pushing her back into her seat. "It's okay, Connie. Adam handled it." The boy gazed down at the girl as he overheard his name. Adam softly smiled at Indiana, who returned it.
"Didn't get enough time to flirt earlier today?" Asked Julie as soon as Indiana turned back to facing her.
"You two shut up about me and Banks and tell me how the beach was," stated Indiana.
"So, you admit there is a you and Banks?" Connie asked, earning a glare from Indiana.
