3 WEEKS LATER

Drip, drip.

They held their head in their hands, rocking back and forth.

Drip, drip.

They could hear everything.

Drip, drip.

Everything was so loud. It was excruciating.

Drip, dri- They screamed, their hands flying out. The dripping tap across the room, outside of their cell, was completely frozen.

They shook, bringing their frosted hands over their ears.

It was so loud.

"What is wrong with it?"

"I don't know. Maybe it had a bad reaction to the last serum we gave it."

They could hear the two scientists as clear as day. But they were in a different room.

"If it keeps on like this, it will need to be terminated."

"Terminated? But we have put so much money and time into it? We can simply put them in the chamber for a while. That should buy us some time to fix the problem."

"Yeah, yeah. Lets just hope prolonged exposure to the chamber doesn't fuck it up anymore than it already is."

They panicked, 'not the chamber, anything but that place'. They panted, unable to control themselves as ice started to cover the entire room. They started screaming.

"No, no, no, no, NO!"

Frost sat up with a gasp. Their face was wet with tears, their throat dry. They brought up a shaking hand and wiped away their tears, but they noticed that frost covered it. They looked down to see a strike of ice up the wall they were laying next to. It reached up to the ceiling in spikes.

Sighing in exhaustion, they climbed out of their makeshift bed. It was just a sleeping bag on top of  a couple wooden pallets that were already in the building when they found the place. The place in question was an abandoned bungalow. Apparently the family had died in the place so no one had wanted to buy it, leaving it to the bank to keep. But even they couldn't sell it so it was left to rot.

It was a good place for Frost, as it was on the outskirts of a small town in Poland, leading to no obvious attention towards them, as long as they didn't go into town too much. Townspeople always want to know other peoples businesses. Anyone who did come round to the house, mainly teenagers looking to get drunk or high, Frost easily chased them away.

Frost grabbed a dark green sweater, pulling it on. Looking out the cracks of the boarded up window, Frost could see that it was early morning. Deciding they had nothing better to do, they quickly put on their only pair of shoes and beanie, heading out for a run.

Running had become an almost daily thing for Frost. They never stayed in one place for more than a few days, and while they found places, they found themselves easily bored. Working out or playing with their powers was the only thing they really knew to do. So that's what they did.

They ran along a small road that led into town. Hedges framed the road, birds flying along them, chirping away. No cars or other people were in sight. As the road came up to the town, more houses appeared, most detached with gardens. An elderly man walked on the pavement on the opposite side of the road from them. He sent a small smile their way, in which they returned.

They had been trying their best to adjust to the worlds customs. It didn't help that these changed in different countries, let along how different they were in a city compared to a small town. But they were trying to adapt the best they could.
