Once Alistair and I reach the village of Selrana we immediately head towards the village elder's house. The village, just like the castles I've seen so far, is in ruins. I wondered why we'd head to the elder's house and not somewhere a little more like a library. That question was soon answered.
"You might be asking yourself why here, right?" Asks Alistair.
"You got me there." Replies Kayle half-heartedly
"In a village like this, all the records would be kept by the elder." States Alistair.
"Why are we here though?" Asks Kayle in a skeptical tone.
"This village was once a refuge to Vampires and Werewolves alike." Replies Alistair.
"Are you telling me this village was built for those who broke the law?" Asks Kayle with her jaw slightly agape.
"Yes." Replies Alistair.
"So it was founded by a vampire and werewolf couple?" Asks Kayle.
"More or less. As you're aware, if a vampire loses their partner before they can tell them what they are they go berserk and lose all control." Replies Alistair.
"Yeah, I know that. What of it?" States Kayle.
"The female vampire who built this lost her partner and was on the verge of losing control until she came across a werewolf who also lost his mate. As it may seem impossible, they fell in love with each other almost immediately. After several years the two decided they wanted to have a child." Replies Alistair.
"Is there a reason you're telling me this?" Asks Kayle.
"What do you think would happen when a parent is suddenly ripped away from their child?" Replies Alistair.
"It would lead to the same result." States Kayle as she begins to feel uneasy.
"The father was killed in front of his wife and child, and then the child was taken by force from the mother. The council was curious as to what would happen from that so they shackled the mother as she was no longer able to be controlled. They wanted to see if a berserk vampire could be turned back to their normal self, so after several years they took the child to its mother and what do you think happened?" Asks Alistair.
"That's not possible!" Exclaims Kayle.
"It is rare, and very few and far between that it'll work." Replies Alistair.
"So, there are documents here about what happened?" Asks Kayle, still in a haze.
"That's what we're here to find. If I'm not mistaken, they buried them sometime after the war, so no one could find traces of a hybrid being born here." States Alistair.
"My question is, why are hybrids so feared in the first place?" Asks Kayle.
"In my six-hundred years as a council head, I've asked myself the same question. They have the strength of both Vampires and Werewolves and no known weaknesses. Their genetic makeup is rather odd as well." Replies Alistair as he suddenly stops.
"What do you mean by their genetic makeup is odd?" Asks Kayle.
"Their DNA is that of a normal human. It has no traces of either of them. The case I was just referring to is a rare one to be sure. Hybrids are nothing more than a human that is a hundred times stronger than normal by far, but what if something could trigger a sudden change? For you for instance, you would lose control if Jerick were to die or get hurt, and the same could be said about your daughter. Jerick lost control the moment he saw his sister die in front of him, and the fear of it happening to you and at the time his unborn child. Sadly, vampires are easier to bring back from that state than we are." Replies Alistair.
