Narrator: Izuku Midoriya is on his way to the quirk doctor with his mother to be diagnosed for his quirk, since he is now four years of age. Izuku's bestfriend Katsuki Bakugo has already developed his quirk, and it is named as explosions. After waiting for about 15 minutes, they are finally called into the room by a doctor.
Inko: *gets up and hold out her hand* "Coming! Izuku you ready?"
Izuku: *jumps off the chair and grabs her hand* "Yes!"
They walk through the door following a doctor to one of the back rooms. The doctor preforms a normal health checkup first and asks Izuku a question.
Doctor: "So little Midoriya, what do you wish to be when you grow up?"
Izuku: "Well I wanna be a hero!" *Smiles brightly*
Doctor: "Then let's check your quirk, shall we? I'm gonna place my hand on your head, you might receive a small headache but nothing to serious, okay?"
Izuku: "Okay!" (Doctor places his hand on Izuku's forehead)
Doctor: 'Oh no, I don't feel anything resembling a quirk in him, nothing. There hasn't been a quirkless kid born in japan in over 30 plus years. I don't know how to break it to him'... "S-so kid, um. I'll just say it, you don't seem to possess a quirk at all. But that doesn't mean you can't be a hero, you'll just have to find another way, because that's what true heroes do!"
Inko: 'This is my fault, if only I didn't have such a weak quirk.' "I'm so sorry Izuku!"
Izuku: *wipes his tears and hugs his mom* "It's okay mom, I'll still be a hero and I'll change lives for the better one way or another. I'll just have to try harder!"
Long after the quirk doctor's appointment, him and his mother return home. Izuku of course doesn't let his new diagnosis stop him. So, he asks his mom if he can go to the park and play with 'Kacchan', aka Katsuki Bakugo. After arriving at the park, he runs to Bakugo and asks him to play. Bakugo asks if he went to the quirk doctor yet. Izuku says he did, in turn Bakugo asks him what his quirk is. Izuku then reveals himself to be quirkless, not thinking it would matter to his bestfriend. Oh, how wrong he was. In that very moment Bakugo's face changed to an angry one, he tells Izuku that he can never be a hero without a quirk. That he is now practically useless, with that said, he realizes that if you rearrange the kanji for Izuku, it can spell Deku. Which means useless or unneeded. Izuku ran away after being pushed down by Bakugo. And from that day on for years Katsuki Bakugo would continue to ruin Izuku Midoriya's chance at a normal life. By revealing and belittling his quirklessness, bullying him verbally and physically, getting others in on it to only refer to him by 'Deku'.
Since that day as well, Izuku has been searching for a way to be a hero, an inspiration, anything. He realized that he would need to get smarter, more talented. He also decided to start working out regularly when he turned five. One day he took to the internet and looked through all the pre-quirk sections. He narrowed his search with one word, inspiration. Izuku then came across the pre-quirk profession of Magic. For days and days, he continued to look up all the magic he could. He was so mesmerized by all the things magic could do. It could trick, inspired, confuse, and fill people with joy. From that moment, he knew that a magician is what he wanted to be. Over the next 6 years, he continued to practice sleight of hand with card and coin magic. He also studied mentalism and hypnosis too. He practiced re-creating tricks which we're revealed to him through videos. He learned how important math and science were to magic. Izuku really liked how easy it seemed to trick people. He of course also practiced small abilities that many magicians had developed in the past. When he was 9, he decided to put on a small yet simple routine at the local mall. Izuku chose to do the routine of 'Find the Queen', he made a sign and posted it. It said, "Find the Queen, and possibly earn 500-yen, 100 yen to play!" Izuku often wins, but if the person is a kid or someone who seems too sad, he lets them win. He will continue to do this twice a week up until U.A.
