IVY

I stared at the ceiling in the room. It was one of my favorite things on days like this. Silence had me engulfed like a warm blanket.

It was soothing and unharmful. A new phone with a new sim had been dropped by Julian. He didn't stay for more than a minute. The hatred in his eyes had never dimmed down and I never expected it to. He had handed me the phone looking right past me informing me that Aster wouldn't be coming down.

People could think that boredom was burdensome it made them depressed but not me. It was soothing in its own way. In all the years I had gone through those horrors, days like these seemed precious.

It was dark outside and I hadn't turned on the lights in the house. I had no idea what the time was. The darkness didn't scare me because I had seen the horrors of life in the bright light. If there were ghosts in the dark I would have loved it if they haunted my broken battered soul but like all others even they didn't want me.

I heard a thump making me look out the window. My mind and ears were attentive trying to hear more of it and ascertain where it came from. There was no one around here. I lived on an abandoned land with no one around. Could it have been an animal? If yes then what could it be?

The sound came again a bit louder. I sat up and looked out the window. Standing up I walked towards the window to see if there was anything outside that I could see. Nothing. It was completely dark. I heard the sound again and it grew louder and closer. What was it?

I moved away from the window towards the back. I could hear the sound of the wind and the ruffling of leaves from the trees. The sound of crickets and much more but this sound was different. It felt like it didn't belong there. I went straight to the kitchen where the back door was and found the source of the thumping sound. It was the window that was left open.

No wonder I felt like I could hear everything ultra clear today. The window was open and the wind was making it close and pen again and again. Moving towards it I opened it wider and looked outside. All there was nothing but darkness in the land in front of me. Bare of any other human existence behind me.

Looking up I saw the beauty that resided in the darkness. The crescent moon shone brightly in the sky as stars accompanied it. I loved nights like this. There was a dream once where I could make love under the stars and just stare at them in the aftermath. But it was nothing but a dream. A dream where there was an intense undying love where not only two bodies met but so did two other souls.

It was a foolish dream, however. Did I even have a soul or did Aster have one? What did I call what we had? Was it even love? I was always going to be the other woman, the one on the side. I was no threat to anyone, my existence was nothing. I was as harmless as a flower. I could be crushed and thrown away. My living and dying were not going to affect anyone.

Aster would marry her and I would be here to please him as he liked. My heart and pain were nowhere to be considered. There were no promises of future children, no promises of family. I had nothing in my future. It was bleak and like a flower, I would wither away and be thrown away.

I was disposable until Aster tired out of me and the world outside just didn't care about me.

"Hello beautiful," I heard a whisper around me and I stiffened. I could feel someone's presence behind me and It was not someone I knew. The smell of leather and sweat filled my nostrils.

"It's going to be an easy task, Ezzy. I don't know why Sienna thought this was a difficult task," I heard the footsteps coming from inside the house.

"He isn't here. She is all alone. Not even a single guard to save her," I heard another voice as it came closer. "It looks like he doesn't care for her at all," he added. I could hear my own heartbeat inside my ears. There was no one to save me. I was going to die tonight.

I had to hide. I had to run. I had to do something to live. Breathing in a lungful of air I ran towards the door in front of me. I could hear laughs in the background but I had only one aim and that was to keep myself safe, to make it through this.

"She thinks she can run away from us," One of them laughed as he ran after me. I haven't seen anyone of them but yet I knew that I was of no comparison to them. I knew that they both can kill me easily.

Running towards the bedroom I closed the door while catching a glimpse of those two bulky men who were here to end what was left of me. Moving towards the wooden rack I started moving it towards the door. They could open the door easily. I needed to barricade the door. With all my strength I moved the rack against the door.

I heard the jiggling sound of the door knob. They were laughing on the other side of the door.

"Do you really think you can save yourself from us?" they mocked as they banged the door violently. Picking up the side table I put it over the rack. I found everything I could pick and used it to barricade the door. With nothing left, I looked towards the door. They were long bangs on the door. They were trying to break down.

I could see the things vibrating out of the force they were putting in to open the door. Deep down I knew that this could only stall them for a bit longer. My eyes turned toward the bathroom door. There was no use in hiding there. I patted down looking for my phone but it wasn't with me at all. It was outside. There was only one way out of the room and I had barricaded but those people would eventually kill me if I didn't get out of there.

Looking at the other side of the room I saw the window. I was far away from people. There was no car outside but there was a vast space where I could hide.

The sound of bangs made me look at the door. Things were falling apart one by one. There was hole in the door.

"I see you little bitch!" I heard one of them scream. The fear inside of me grew at a faster pace trying to lock me in place but this was the time to fly or fight and I knew I had to fly. I couldn't fight them. I was weak.

"Let's do it together," I heard them which was followed by a loud bang. I saw the rack shifting. The things moving trying to make way for the intruders to come in. Picking up the knife from under my pillow I went to the windows.

"Hurry up, that bitch is running away," I heard one of them scream at the other. The door was jar enough to let their hand in. More than that they were trying to nail it down. They were tearing it apart. Opening up the window I jumped out just in time to hear a loud bang than ever. They had been able to break down the door. I saw them getting inside the room and that was when I saw their faces. I knew them.

I had seen them.

They were her men. Her special men. My eyes met with the bulkier one of the two and I saw the same wicked smile on his lips that I had seen numerous times when he was about to kill someone. I ran ahead without wasting time. With all my strength I moved towards the backyard where there were woods. There was going to be ample space for me to hide there. I could survive there until Aster came back. I could survive until then.

"Gotchu," I heard as I felt an arm snake around my waist.

"Do you really think you could run away from your own death, Ivy?" I heard him as my body started to lock down in panic. The fear inside of me was making me stand still. All I could hear was the thrumming of my heartbeat in my ears.

"I will make sure to enjoy you before you die," he whispered in my ear as his hand moved up my thigh.

"I'm going to kill this bitch," I heard another man say as he came in front of my eyes. I would enjoy marking her face," he added as he pulled out a knife moving it down from my forehead to my lips.

"These lips seem too pale," he laughed as the knife hovered over my lips. I moved my head furiously making the knife make a small cut over my lower lip.

"You bitch," I felt a punch on side of my face. My teeth cut my cheek from the inside as I groaned from the pain. The metallic taste of the blood filled my mouth due to the punch he threw at me again.

I felt myself fainting. Closing and going into the dark. This was going to be my death.
