New Girl

It was Monday. Ayako dreaded it, but had no idea. As usual, she went downstairs that morning, ate breakfast, got on the bus and all that jazz. When she got to school, everything started to go downhill.

Her first class was math. One of the classes she had with Kiri. A new student came in that day. Her name was Mina Ashido. Kiri and her were friends in middle school. She was pretty, but in Ayako's case, that wasn't good at all. Mina and Kiri talked to each other for the entire class period. Ayako did not like this new girl so far.

Later in the day, she asked Kiri if he wanted to go to the bakery with her after school. He then popped off with, "I'm so sorry Ayako. I'm going to the park with Mina after school. Maybe tomorrow?" She almost bursted into a million pieces. All she could do was mutter out was an 'ok'.

On the bus she told Hanako about what happened and she got angry. She said things about how Ayako shouldn't talk to him anymore and said some pretty mean things about Mina that everyone heard. Ayako couldn't believe her reaction. When she got home, she went straight to her room, not even seeing the note on the kitchen table.

She then cried until her brother got home from school. "Ayako! I'm home! Where are you?" he called. Ayako then heard footsteps on the stairs. Next thing she knew, she was hugging her brother, crying again. She told him everything. All about the other day and about Mina. He wondered if she made the right decision but at that moment, the only thing that mattered was Kayake holding her tightly and letting herself drift off to sleep.

The next day, it was like fate decided to take everything from the day before and throw it out the window. Everything was back to normal. Ayako and Kiri talked all day and went to the bakery. Mina stayed out of their way until lunch.

"So you must be Ayako! Sorry, that was rude of me. Can I call you by your first name? Anyway, Kiri told me SO much about you! You're his fav subject. I'm Mina Ashido. You can call me Mina tho. Your shoes are so cute!!" Ayako didn't know how to react. Everything happened so quickly. One minute she was sitting at the lunch table, the next, she was walking to Mina's next class with her arm around Ayako's shoulder.

Finally, Mina left for her class and it was peaceful and quiet. Mina was everything Ayako didn't expect. Maybe Kiri wasn't into Mina after all. Thank the lord the two were nothing alike.
