Chapter 9

| MATTHEWS POV |

I push myself off the floor and make my way towards the door. I look up at the sky and realize the sun will be going down. "Hey, guys we should head back now the sun will go down soon" I hear the three move over to me so I move outside and turn to face them as they come out of the shack. We all start to walk back to the manor. "Hey, Matt and Seth, how long are you guys staying here?" Jacks asks. I was about to say it until Seth yelled it out. "A NIGHT OR TWO SO THAT MEANS A SLEEPOVER!" Nick jumped and covered his ears and started to give Seth a look. "Sorry about him, he doesn't know how to be quiet when he's at another person's place," I say while patting Nick's shoulder to calm him.

He uncovers his ears and smiles at me. There's silence for the rest of the walk back towards the manor. Once we arrived back I realized something. "Hey uh- Jack how exactly are we gonna sneak back inside?" I questioned. Jack walks over to the side his window is on and grabs something from Nick's bag. He pulls out a rope and hands it to me. "What am I supposed to do with this?" Jack stares at me for a few seconds then at the window. "Try and throw it onto the hook next to my window.

I pull on the rope, slide it, throw my hand to get to the hooped part and set my hands a few spaces away from it. I throw my arm back and throw the rope at the hook. It misses. "Oh." I try again and then another try. On my fourth try, I finally got it on the hook. I pull gently to make sure we can climb on it. "Whose first?" I ask, looking back at the three. They all pointed at me. I go up towards the wall and start to climb up the wall while holding onto the rope. 

I reach the window and pull myself up and into Jack's room. I fall onto the wooden floor on my hands and knees. I slowly get up, pick up the rope and throw it down for the others. Nick walks up to the rope and grabs it. I back up from the window and sit on Jack's bed waiting for the others.

| TIME SKIP |

Eventually, everyone comes inside Jack's room. We moved the things back to a place and shut the window for the rest of the time we went back to the living room and hung out with Clair. Nick and Jack run off for another one of those adventures they go on.

| JACKS POV |

I hear David yell that it's dinner time. I put the marbles away by putting them back in the small cardboard box and shoving them under my bed. Nick walks out of my room and down the hall. I get up and follow him. I run up next to him and we quickly arrive at the dining room. We both just sit down and say grace. Then it's a silent dinner once again. You could only hear Matthew whispering to Seth and David talking to the man taking care of the Smiles family. His name was Dan and he was a friend of Robert's. The father of the family.

| A WEEK LATER |

The Smiles family had left a few days ago. They were going to Dan's diner where they would mostly hang out. Other times at Dan's house. David and Nick have been working in Nick's room. They would go out now and then to find things for Nick's room. I hung out in my room talking to my friend inside the wall. Nobody heard him talking, only his knocks against the wall. I looked around my room to find the paper I had hidden so they couldn't take it away. I couldn't find them so I gave up. 

I sat on the ground and laid my head against the side of my bed. I look over at the clock. It was only 5 pm. I get up and walk out of my room. The whole manor is silent. I wander around the house a few times before entering Nick's room. He already had a bed and desk with a lamp on it and a red carpet on the floor. I heard something about him wanting to get one of these glowing lamps. I think they were called lava lamps. He showed me what they looked like and they seemed cool.
