Dear Esther,
At the moment, you lie asleep in your room, while I'm writing this letter to you. I can't sleep, of course. No matter how much I try. Maybe part of me doesn't want to sleep, because I'll have enough time to sleep later, endlessly. Look at me, blabbering on...obviously sleep delirious...I haven't even had coffee.
Do you remember when we were eleven, the first night of the Christmas holidays? We both stayed at Hogwarts, alone. We were joined to the hip, the two of us were! That night you pinky-promised me that we'd get married. I honestly don't know what we were thinking!
I'm sorry I couldn't fulfill that wish of yours...I'm sorry I broke the pinky-promise. I'm sorry that I can't tell you this in person.
What I'm trying to say, E, is that I've made a decision.
The burden that comes with the legacy of the Black's is unimaginable...but I've decided that I'd rather be on the right side of history than be a remembered as someone who was just one of his pawns. I have too much self-respect for that.
Esther, you deserve the world. The bloody world. I wish I could give you that. But I can't and I have to accept that. And so do you.
I never got to tell you this, E. I wish I could tell you in person. Every time, you smiled at me, I blushed secretly. I know you just thought I had rosy cheeks. Every time, you ran your hands through my hair, I felt like pulling you closer. Every time, you bit your lip, I felt like kissing it.
