A tale of Pia and Rishi, two completely different souls who met for the good and ended up being a crucial part of each other's life. But got drifted away... Will they meet? Or will the separation tear them apart completely?
Pia's new bench partner for the month was Rishi, the last person on this planet she fancied it to be! She despised him because he was always silent and somber, something completely opposite to her. For her staying quiet for more than a minute was impractical. There he came, with his sad face and that weird bag with some anime character on it. She thought of giving it a good start, with a bright 'Hello', Pia's trademark!
"Heyyy!", "Hi" replied Rishi with the most uninterested tone Pia had ever heard anyone talk in. "We are partners now! We'll be sitting together!" She said. "So?" came the dry reply. The classes started and Pia got bored. She tried to initiate a conversation again, "Yaar we have 2 chemistry classes today! I hate chemistry."
"Oh!" is all that he said.
It was the lunch break now.. and Pia had not talked for the last 2 periods. She saw Rishi was not having his lunch so she proceeded to ask him.. "why aren't you eating?" "I don't have my lunch" "What? Why?" "Mom's ill" "What happened?" "Why do you care?" Rishi said bluntly. Pia could not believe how someone could be so impolite. She felt bad and asked if he wanted to share her lunch, and Rishi straightaway denied. Pia could not tolerate him anymore and hence decided not to talk to him ever again.
The day ended and Pia for the first time, realized how long and unbearable a day could be.
Rishi
For Rishi, Pia was irritating, she asked a lot of questions and wanted to know everything. The elation in her voice was unmatched! She was always excited, and Rishi thought it was weird. He wasn't prepared for another day filled with questions and those cheek to cheek smiles that Pia had glued on her face every time. 'Why was she always so joyful? It seemed like it was her birthday everyday' he thought. Rishi wasn't as enthusiastic even on his birthdays.
Rishi entered his class and there she was! Smiling as always and on the sight of Rishi, singing the popular "Heyyyy", he replied with a normal "Hi". " How's aunty?" Asked Pia, and Rishi could not believe she had just enquired about his mother's well being. 'Why is she so concerned?' is what he thought. "She's fine," he said. "So, got your lunch today?" "No" replied Rishi "Why?" "She's still not at her best." To which Pia responded... "No problem, we'll share my lunch." "No need" said Rishi bluntly!
It was lunch break and Rishi was hungry! And that smell; the smell or wait! The fragrance of aloo paratha, Rishi's favorite, was making it difficult for him to contain himself. "Are you sure you are not hungry?" Pia asked as if to tease him. "No I'm not!'' I AM HUNGRY!!! Rishi said to himself. "Oh come on Rishi, have some!" That's it.. Rishi could not control anymore and went up to grab one of the parathas. They were delicious. He wondered how Pia was so generous even after his harsh behavior.
It was the 5th period of the day… the physics period. They had to submit their notebook for evaluation. Rishi and 2 other boys' work was incomplete and were given a day's time to complete it. Pia had asked Rishi how much of his work was left and he told her he had to write 2 chapters. "It's okay! You have half a day left, I'll send you my notes, you can complete your work. Give me your no." "Huh? Okay!" They exchanged their phone numbers, and Rishi could not believe that Pia had shared her number with him; something unusual for a girl to do.
Rishi reached home, had his lunch and was sitting in his room when we got a msg from an unknown number. He checked out the profile picture and saw Pia smiling. He caught himself staring at her picture for 10 seconds straight and sulked at the realization. He then saved her number, and responded to her text.
