I sighed as I stepped into my car. Taking my beanie out of my bag, I yanked the thick fabric over my tangled bed head. I slid the key in before turning the minivan on. Smoke poured out the bottom of my vehicle as I yanked the wheel left and spun out of my driveway.
We were going to the mountains, at least that's what my friends said we were doing. My aunt told me I should go, and even though I'm nineteen and in college I still listened. I couldn't just ignore her, after all she basically raised me. I massaged my head with my fingers, my rings and bracelets making a chiming noise that was quite soothing. I hadn't told my friends that this was the same mountain my grandparents died on. I hadn't told my aunt where I was headed, she wouldn't have wanted me to go then. My grandparents death was a mystery to me, but it terrified my aunt and that made me anxious for anything that could happen on this trip.
As I pulled into my friends apartment I stepped out of the car and grabbed a giant stone. It was cold under my fingers, and rough enough to cut you. I chucked the stone at her window, and sure enough a few seconds later her face popped up in the glass and I could make out her deadly glare from here. Quickly I ran back into my car, hitting my shin on the door I locked the car before bursting out laughing. After a few minutes I saw her dash out of her door a glare still plastered on her face. She banged on the door, shouting profanities until I unlocked it. She chucked her bag into the trunk and then bounded into her seat. Karter was a beautiful girl, her blonde hair could be the example on a box of dye and her skin was flawless. Of course she had perfect amber eyes as well, they were rounded and gave her expression a hint of her spunk.
She gave me the stink eye before punching my arm, "I hate you so much, you scared me jerk!" She yelled.
"I'm sorry, did I wake sleeping beauty?" I chuckled.
"Yes!" She groaned, before slamming her head back into the headrest. "It's only eight thirty, geez woman."
"Sorry Karter," I smiled at her tired expression before driving off to the next house. we had agreed earlier I would take three people and Sydney would take three. This way our cars would have enough room for luggage.
I made a right at the next corner and took a deep breath, only to end up in a coughing fit. "Woah, Freya are you okay?" Karter's worried expression met mine. Her blonde hair a crazy fuzz from the morning.
"Yeah I'm good, asthma remember?" I reminded her before pulling out my inhaler and taking a few puffs of it. As I set it down I pulled right up to Alexa's house. I watched Karter jump out and bound up to the door, I twirled my hair between my fingers. My hair was long and hung at my waist, it was a deep brown, which was the same as my father. opening my window I checked the rearview mirror to make sure Karter was coming back. I rubbed my fingers together as my hot breath turned to fog in the cold air.
Shuddering I looked behind me seeing Alexa and Karter running up to the car with a couple suitcases and bags. I laughed as Alexa fell into the car, her short dirty blonde hair falling over her face. She was the smart one. The one who pretty much gained the most attention. Her skin was flawless and tanned, like Karters. Mine was freckled and always sunburned. Her eyes were a deep brown that entranced most people, she was in other words perfect.
She slid into the back as Karter reclaimed her spot in the passenger seat. She turned the music on full blast as I sped out of the driveway towards Charlotte's house. I pulled out the candy stored away in my cup holders. I had grabbed most of it last night at the store, while an old woman warned me not to eat so much candy. I smiled remembering her expression as I placed one of my boxes of chocolate onto her cart after I bought it. Karters grabbed my arm as I squealed. "Where did you get all this candy." She gasped before taking a huge bite of a Kit Kat.
"From the store you idiot." Laughed Alexa, I grinned along with her as we danced to the music. Soon after we pulled up to the apartment where Charolotte stayed. I jumped out of the car as the other girls insisted they weren't walking through the snow again. I smiled before knocking on the simple red door that marked this complex as Charlotte's. My smile widened as her door was thrown open and her arms wrapped around my figure. I hugged her back as the smell of vanilla entered my nose.
Charlotte was a tall girl, her hair was so dark it was nearly black. Her skin was nearly the same shade only slightly lighter and like me she had freckles, although she had a smaller amount. Her eyes were a captivating green, and reminded me of pine trees. She smiled back at me before we grabbed her duffel bags and headed back to the car. "Thank you for picking me up, I can't believe we are going on vacation together, we deserve it." Out of us all Charlotte was the cleanest, and wherever she went sanitizer was brought along. I preferred her sanitizer, since it always smelled awesome. She threw her bag into our car and we packed everything in before getting settled. After the car had practically been rearranged, we turned up our music letting the sounds carry through our ears. Stepping on the gas we headed out of this town, our tire tracks being covered by the newly falling snow.
