Mmmm everything is all warm. I open my eyes to find the medical bay ceiling above me. I knew this ceiling too well for I was ‘prone to damage’ as the nurses said. I take my eyes off the ceiling to look at my surroundings. Cole was sitting on a chair with his head and upper torso laying on my bed. He was fast asleep and looked so peaceful. I smile and reach out to brush his hair from his face.

“He has been here most of the time you were out.”

Startled, I quickly retracted my hand and looked up to see who was speaking.

“Sorry I didn’t mean to scare you. I’m Le”

“You’re Leon!”

“Um yes. How did you”

“Know? It’s a long story, let’s just say it was part of a dream. You are my familiar?”

“Yes. Sorry you just seem to be taking this way better than how everyone said. They made it seem like you would have my head on a pike before I could even get my name out. I had this whole speech put together.”

“Under normal circumstances I would but everything has just been odd and I feel so tired.”

“I would say I am surprised with how long you have slept but I know that the void can drain you.”

“You knew I was in the void?”

“It was only a hunch. You had that aura around you. Someone who hasn’t been there would not notice the change in your aura but I have been there a few times so I know the feeling.”

“Does that make your ability darkness like mine?” I feel Cole begin to stir.

“In a way yes, my ability is shadows. It works similar to darkness.”

“Wait, you said I had a while to sleep. How long was I out for?”

Cole answers for Leon. “About a week. The nurses did all they could but you just wouldn’t wake. It’s good to see you awake but from the sound of it you could still use some rest. Leon and I will leave you to rest. I will sneak some of Laura’s soup in after dinner time tonight. You know how those nurses get with outside food.”

He stands up to leave but I reach out to grab his hand.

“Thank you.”

“Of course. Now rest.”

Just as Cole had promised he brought me some of Laura’s soup along with the company of Laura and Kierra. Laura was more than happy to help sneak in soup as she has said multiple times her soup is a better cure than what those nurses shove down your throats. I had to admit Laura was right, her soups were the best and she always had one for any and every ailment. A cold was oncoming tealeaf soup, had a nasty cough spice soup, tired from a hard day honeysun soup or had a severed limb lime-copper soup. You never had to ask for a specific soup either. It was as if she knew but then again she always had a watchful eye over everyone. It was as if everyone was her child. She was probably the closest thing to a mother and Chris was the closest thing I had to a father. Although I viewed Laura as a mother, she was also seen as a sister and a sister always loves to gawk about boys. I typically didn’t like indulging in the topic but at times it was nice to be a girly girl.

“Come on Laura you can’t kick me out. I’ve got a”

Laura was pushing Cole out of the room.

“No Cole. It’s girl talk time and you’ve hardly got any sleep since Rose has been unconscious. Go home and get some rest, you’ll see her in the morning.”
