2|Two Too Many

{The first night with Theo and Astra}

Draco and I stared at our lovely little monsters. I prayed and hoped they wouldn't grow up just as fast as everyone said they would. Narcissa kept telling us how she never imagined Draco to grow up so quickly, and I could feel my chest tighten at the mere thought of my monsters leaving me so soon. 

We were both so attached, we both loved them more than we loved each other. I never wanted to leave them, not being able to hold them was almost torture, just leaving them to sleep was painful. But Draco reminded me that we needed to sleep, and he always knew the best things for me. 

I woke up to the sound of a little giggle, something strange that I hadn't heard before. My eyes tiredly fluttered open only to see Draco holding his precious Astra. It broke me slightly, knowing what her name meant to him. He had told me of his nightmares, not being able to save the little girl he promised to protect. I reminded him countless times that it wasn't his fault, that he had gotten her to Tonks in enough time, it was what happened after that caused the incident. 

I smiled as I watched him lightly bounce her in his arms. She had the smallest amount of hair on her little head, showcasing the bright blonde—just like her fathers. Draco was whispering to her, I could barely hear him as he spoke, but what I could make out nearly shattered my heart. 

"I will always protect you, I will always love you, you will always be safe."

Over and over, again and again. He was always going to put his heart and soul into that girl. He sat on the edge of the hospital bed, and I gently rubbed his back to let him know I was awake. He turned around slowly with a smile before he placed our daughter in my arms and placed a kiss on my forehead. Astra was gorgeous, she blinked furiously, her eyes were wide and green. I kissed her small nose and held her close to my chest while Draco picked up a restless Theo.

"We make some amazing children, don't you think?" Draco asked as he rested back on the bed with me.

I couldn't take my eyes off our creation as I replied, "No one else will ever be as cute." I spoke in a tone I didn't know I had.

It sounded like I was reading a child a nursery rhyme, a voice like Penny had used when she checked their weight. I was a mother, I was responsible for making two of the cutest human beings I had ever seen. It was so surreal, to hold a miniature version of yourself in your arms. Well—I suppose Astra was more a miniature version of Draco. 

"She's got your hair," I spoke in a whisper, looking to Draco's loving expression as he analysed our son. 

"But she's got your face," He laughed. 

I chuckled at that comment, not any specifics, just my entire face. He never failed to make me laugh, to make me smile. Through everything—he would always be the best thing that would ever happen to me, him and our children. 

There was a knock at the door, Draco called out silently for them to come in. Penny walked in along with Hermione, Ginny and Onyx. I smiled as I watched them file into the room quietly.

"Everyone went out for breakfast, the hospital food is awful," Ginny spoke lightly, wary of the fact that Astra and Theo were still tired.

I nodded quietly while Draco kept his eyes strained on Theo, examining him closely before he leaned over to me and lifted him slightly, "Do you think he would have looked something like this?" He asked delicately. 

My heart shifted as I looked to Theo and thought of the child we had lost. I smiled lightly before nodding, "I can't imagine him any other way," I spoke through a whisper.
