Saitama finally arrived at home, where he was welcomed by his cyborg disciple, Genos, who noticed the many packages the bald man was carrying, and one of them seemed particularly heavy. He knew that this wasn't a problem for Saitama, but offered a helping hand nonetheless, asking what happened as well:
- Oh, a monster was attacking the city's library, so I killed it and the owner gave me these books
Saitama took the three books out of the bag and showed them to Genos, who started to examine them: hardcover, with medieval-like illustrations along with the title "The Princess and the Unknown Hero", written in gold-colored letters. It seemed to have around 250+ pages each. No wonder why the package was rather heavy. Judging by the cover art and the synopsis on the back, it was certainly a fantasy novel. It's not something that he had interest on. To the cyborg, fantasy is only a way for weak people to escape from reality. He also noticed that his Sensei didn't seem too interested in the books, so maybe he would just tell him to throw them away.
- Actually I was thinking about giving them to you, Genos. I thought you would like these kinds of things...
...Wait a minute. Are these actually a gift from his Sensei?! How could he simply tell him to throw a gift away? What kind of disciple he is to deny such a thing from his own Sensei?
Genos immediately bowed down to him:- Thank you so much for giving these to me, Saitama-sensei! I'll gratefully accept these books!
- Eeh... you're... welcome, I guess... - Saitama gave him a confused look, but shrugged it off. Genos was always like that. Even when he says something futile, the cyborg takes that as life advice and takes notes.
Then Genos took the books and started reading the first volume of the series.~~~
Genos got so interested in the story that he finished the first volume of the series in no time.
It was about a princess who lived her life peacefully in her kingdom, until one day, a mysterious monster came and burned everything to ashes. At the verge of death and despair, a wizard who was passing by the kingdom decided to rescue her. He healed her and, seeing the princess' will to avenge her family and kingdom, started teaching her about magic and how to perform it. The wizard was also trying to find that monster who destroyed the princess' kingdom, since it had bringed down many others before, being the cause of despair for many people.
And so, the wizard and the princess were allies in a mission to track down and kill the beast. The princess was willing to avenge her family and her kingdom. Some years later, the princess finishes her training with the wizard and begins her hunt for the monster. During her journey, she killed many monsters and saved many lives, but no sign of the one who changed her life forever.
However, one day she stumbles upon a monster who's draining the essence of every living thing, making it more and more powerful. She was confident with her powers, so she thought that this monster was going to be "just another one".She was mistaken.
The princess let her guard down. The monster was too powerful. Without any other choice, she started to prepare a strong spell that would cause her self-destruction.
But suddenly, a mysterious (and a curious detail: naked) man comes in and obliterates the monster, as if it was nothing.
The princess saw everything with her own eyes, and before the man leaves, she stops him and begs for him to teach her, as she wants to gain some physical strength in order to improve her magical powers. The man was a bit hesitant with that, but he ends up accepting it.As the story goes on, the two start to develop feelings for each other, but the man didn't had any idea that the woman was in fact a princess. And she didn't know that the man was actually a hero.
The man protected her from monsters (even though he knew that she could handle them alone very well), and the princess protected him from the hate and insults he occasionally received from some enraged villagers."They are perfect for each other. They work very well together. I hope they end up together at the end..." - Genos thought. He was surprisingly captivated by the story.
Saitama seemed to notice this, and gave a relieved smile. At least the books weren't a waste at all.~~~
Genos finished the story faster than he imagined. But he was happy nonetheless. Happy that the monster who burned down the princess' kingdom was killed, the man finally got the recognition he deserved, and that they got together after everything, living happily ever after.
The cyborg was feeling tired as well though, after all, reading three books in a single day is tiring, so he decided to take a nap. And if Saitama-sensei needed him, he would just wake him up.~~~
- ...Prince? It's time to get up. I brought the breakfast for you.
Genos heard a gentle voice speaking to him. He slowly opened his eyes and saw a woman with brown hair tied in a bun, wearing a... medieval-like dress? And she was carrying a tray full of food.
He saw another woman (hair tied up in a bun too, but hers was black) in the room, preparing a fancy suit. It seemed like it was for him.Once he was all set, the two women lead him to a couple. Judging by their fancy clothes and majestic crowns on their heads, they were certainly king and queen.
- Genos, my dear! - the woman exclaimed happily
- Looks like you finally got up, huh? - the man laughed.
The couple hugged him lovingly.
- W-what's happening? - Genos had a confused look on his eyes.
- Oh, we were waiting for you to wake up, so we could go through the day, sleepyhead - the woman said, laughing a bit. Then Genos finally recognized the two. They were his parents. His long deceased parents!
But how could this be possible?
He also figured that he was a prince, and that he didn't have any mechanical parts on his body either.
Was all the Mad Cyborg thing, Saitama-sensei, the Hero Association, just a dream? A very long dream? And he just woke up from it?He didn't know.
