The situation was certainly weird, but Genos felt, for the first time after years, a certain peace inside him. Just seeing his beloved parents again, even in other circumstances, made him feel lightheaded. Maybe all that Mad Cyborg thing was just a nightmare after all. And now he was at home with his family, something he always yearned for the past 4 years, but knew it was impossible.
This sweet moment only lasted for a short time, though...
When he was almost accepting this new reality, a very loud noise (like an explosion) ripped him from his thoughts, and suddenly screams started to fill the atmosphere.
Genos was so confused and shocked at the same time, that he wasn't even paying attention to certain things, such as what his parents were screaming to him. He only saw the distress in their faces, but their words were forming an incomprehensive mess in his mind. Something like "Run away!" and "Save yourself!". He was so shocked that his body wouldn't move an inch, so the only thing he could do was stay put. Then he realized.
That day when the Mad Cyborg started destroying his village, people screaming desperately for help, this feeling of dread overwhelming him, his parents telling him to run away, and then... them getting killed right in front of him... Everything was happening again.~~~
What used to be a majestic and elegant palace, now it was only a miserable amount of ruins. Genos got severely wounded by all the chaos that just happened, but he managed to walk a bit around the place. He started seeing the scenery around him while trying to ignore the stinging pain that was running through all over his body.
Then he saw an arm coming from under the debris. A feminine and delicate arm. Genos quickly realized it belonged to his mother.
She died the same way in the Mad Cyborg incident: being crushed under piles of debris.
But why? Why was it repeating itself over again? Why did he have to relive that horrible day all over again? Why did he have to see his loved ones dying again? It was just to make him suffer?
These thoughts were overwhelming his mind and, merging with the intense pain he was feeling, Genos felt himself slowly losing consciousness, until everything went black.~~~
Genos was hearing some weird noises as he slowly started to wake up. They were... bubbling sounds?
He finally decided to open his eyes:- Oh, did you wake up? How are you feeling?
The man near him had a rather... unique hairstyle. It made him look like some kind of weird mushroom. Almost ridiculous, but his eyes showed kindness and empathy towards Genos. Just then he recognized who he was: Doctor Kuseno. The man gave a small smile to him:
- I happened to pass by your destroyed kingdom and saw you lying in the debris. When I realized you were still alive, I brought you here in my lab and, since I'm a wizard, I cured all your wounds. That's why you're not in pain anymore - his smile started to fade, turning into a sad look - ...It must have been horrible for you. That monster already destroyed many kingdoms...
Genos remembered everything again, and instead of feeling sadness, his blood started boiling, a desire to avenge all his loved ones being born inside him:
- Can you please tell me more about this monster?
The wizard accepted, and after introducing himself as Kuseno (which Genos already knew, but decided to keep this info for himself for some reason), he told everything he knew about that mythical and terrible creature, with Genos listening closely. When Kuseno ended the explanation, Genos' rage was even more intense, to which he asked the wizard if he could teach him how to perform magic in order to track down and kill that monster once and for all.
After much reluctance and many warnings of "You shouldn't risk yourself at such a young age to avenge your family", Kuseno finally agreed on attending the boy's wishes and started a harsh training, where Genos learned how to use powerful fire magic.~~~
Now 19 years old, Genos started his hunt for the monster that destroyed his home and killed his loved ones, leaving a worried Wizard Kuseno behind.
He was so powerful that he defeated countless monsters, one after another, with rather ease, rescuing many people in the process, their grateful smiles and kind words being his reward. But the one he wanted to track down was nowhere to be seen.
One day, he goes to a kingdom where a very powerful monster was attacking. Seems like this one has the ability to absorb the life essence of every living being, and the more it absorbs, the stronger it gets.
Seemed troublesome, but Genos was confident in his magical abilities, so he thought it was going to be just another monster.Little did he know...
