On a dreary February evening, a lone girl stands with a yellow suitcase clutched tightly in her hand. She brushes her light pink hair out of her dark eyes, before carefully scanning the horizon for signs of the bus. She is wearing a plain white t-shirt and a dark pleated skirt; she wanted to look as simple as possible when she entered this town. The motto of this town is, new beginnings, or rather a new leaf as she liked to think.

It didn’t take long for the large yellow bus with the telltale green stripe to appear; rumbling up the street towards her. She quickly climbed aboard hugging her suitcase to her chest, picking a seat near the back. There was no one on this bus besides the driver who was an older gentlemen with dark gray hair balding in the center. He introduced himself as Captain and asked where she was headed.

“Amaryllis…” The young girl stated softly avoiding Captain’s gaze.

“Amaryllis? That quiet town… well it’s certainly nothing like the city you’re leaving. I wish you the best of luck…” He trailed off not knowing the young girl’s name.

“Colette.” She bowed her head before gazing out the window as the bus started.

She didn’t remember falling asleep but she was quickly awoken by the cheery sound of a tall male sitting across from her. He had dark blue hair, red eyes, and a wide smile; he reminded Colette of a cat.

“Greetings! I couldn’t help but notice your map and it seems you’re headed to Amaryllis, why’s that?” The man leaned forward resting his elbows on his knees, studying Colette as if she were an insect in possible need of crushing.

“No reason, just thought I’d take a break from the big city.” Colette nodded shifting away from the man feeling uncomfortable under his scrutinizing gaze.

“Oh, I see. I’m Rover.” He stuck out his hand and Colette took it gently, shaking it slowly.

“Colette.” She responded softly when he raised his eyebrows in question.

He continued asking her questions until from the front of the bus Captain announced they would be arriving at Amaryllis shortly. “It was nice meeting you.” Colette stood up nodding at Rover before starting to walk past him. He grabbed her wrist glancing up at her.

“I’ll be seeing you.” Rover winked before releasing Colette who stumbled forward feeling her face flush. She peered outside the bus doors before carefully exiting down the steps. The bus started with a roar, speeding away and Colette looked around her bleak and dark surroundings knowing nothing would ever be the same again.
