To the young girl's surprise she was invited to play with the boys again, and they didn't even so much as bring up what had happened. They went under the willow tree and while no one brought it up there was an awkward tension hanging about the air.
Charles, while assertive in his love for Sunny, could tell he was not wanted at that current moment in time and he excused himself quietly reminding Sunny of his love for her. As soon as he was gone she turned to face Chief, uncertain of what she was going to say; if she was going to say anything for that matter.
However it was him who said something, or rather did something. He took her face in his hands studying her intently before pressing his lips gently to hers. This was different from the kiss with Charles due to the fact that she was actually enjoying this one.
When he finally pulled away they were both breathless and gazing lovingly up at each other. "Sunny I love you." He mumbled against her lips before kissing her again.
"I love you too." She smiled.
They remained under that tree until the sun went down promising they'd meet again there tomorrow. He walked her up to her door kissing her gently before letting her go. "I'll see you tomorrow."
"I can't wait." She beamed at him.
"We're going to the city." He promised softly before leaving and heading back to his house.
Sunny climbed up her steps slowly running her fingertips along the wooden banisters completely in shock from the events. Chief loved her, and she loved him, it was like a fairytale. Except of course for Charles.
She dropped her gaze to the last step tightening her grip on the banister before skipping over it entirely making her way to her room. Waiting patiently on her pillow was a small envelope taped shut with a heart sticker and Sunny suppressed a smile. "Chief Hall what am I going to do with you?" She mused softly before picking up the letter and when she opened it, in slightly neat handwriting it read:
Dearest Sunny,
I'm no poet, but if I was I'd write you a million sonnets. Instead however I can only offer my heart, which is a bit scratched up but I trust you'll take good care of it. In the short time until we meet again to travel into the city I will be missing you with every fiber in my being. P.S. Meet us at the willow tree at 12.
Love, Chief
Sunny folded the letter up neatly sliding it under her pillow, but instead of sleeping she wandered over to her closet deciding to pick out an outfit for tomorrow. She rummaged through her entire selection before selecting a red dress and a sunhat. The red complimented her now darker but still blonde hair and she had a soft spot for sunhats. She draped these clothes over a chair balancing the sunhat on the edge of her desk before she shuffled over to her bed dropping down under the covers. She drifted into sleep uneasily, tossing and turning most of the night.
In the morning she was a hurricane; changing and getting ready so quickly she was exactly 43 minutes early. She groaned inwardly before dropping herself down into a chair staring idly at the door hoping time would go faster. However time did what it usually does when you want it to go faster, it went slower. This earned another exasperated groan and a scowl from the blonde girl who was now folding her arms at the door. Finally it was sort of close to the meet up time and she flew out the door practically running to the willow tree.
"Chief? Charles?" She called once she arrived as no one was there.
"Boo!" A low voice whispered in her ear causing Sunny to jump. She spun around pushing her attacker playfully before glancing around.
"Charles don't scare me like that! Where's Chief?"
"He'll be here soon, don't worry." Charles teased gently before stepping closer to Sunny.
"Charles..." She started but he took her hands in his and she silently swore at him. "Charles I don't. We aren't going to be a thing. I just want to be friends." She was growing tired of repeating this to him and she pulled away walking closer to the base of the tree. "Please Charles." She felt his arms secure themselves around her waist pushing his chest up against her back. "Charles!" She yelled out trying to squirm free of his grip but he simply covered her mouth ignoring her bites.
"Shut up." He growled in her ear before taking the lobe between his teeth tugging roughly causing Sunny to wince. He began kissing slowly down her neck as she continued squirming in protest. She began screaming into his hand trying to get her hands free from under her.
Suddenly she felt the weight being lifted from her and she spun around ready to dart but Charles was back to normally dusting off his pants. "Hey Sunny." He beamed at her before peering off into the distance. "I believe Chief is here, come on let's go have a grand time in the city." He teased gently elbowing her before jogging over to Chief. Sunny followed more slowly and after much deliberation decided to keep her mouth shut about Charles's weird behavior; he hadn't done anything too bad and she didn't want to get him in trouble with Chief.
"Hello Chief." Sunny gave him a gentle smile and Chief gave her a curt nod. He mustn't have told his brother about us yet, she thought as she boarded the bus. They all sat in silence which was odd but Sunny thought nothing of it because she was incredibly excited to be back in the city.
"Let's go to Main Street!" Sunny pleaded taking both of the boys' hands in hers tugging them towards the shops. "I've been dying to visit the clothing store there!" After a reluctant look shared between the twins they agreed letting Sunny drag them over the tracks and into Gracie Gracie.
A/N: You guys know what this means? Next flashback I get to describe Gracie... And why is Charles acting so weird? If you guys have any idea you should comment... Oh. And if you wanted to see a particular NPC in this story, should comment that too. And I'll consider putting them in. Pretty much everyone except Purrl...
