Chapter 7

(This is a Francis chapter!)

I woke up with the sun, sleeping next to the human who took me home from the metro. It was super early and the humans didn't wake up with the next few hours so I decided to stretch my paws. Getting up and climbing off the couch. I scrambled over to the door and stared up at it.

I have to admit, it was very hard opening doors... so I climbed onto the Tv and had to jump onto the door handle. Sliding over to the right, the handle turned and the door opened. I jumped to the floor and hurried out, making sure to close it behind.

Avoiding people was normally really hard but no one was awake because it was a Sunday. I decided that I would go get a newspaper from the box thingy right outside the apartment building but we were too high up so I had to take the elevator. Hitching a ride on someone's boot, careful they didn't notice me. Lucky me! They're going to the ground floor! And oh boy do their shoes stink-

I jumped off their foot before they turned to go elsewhere, pushing the glass door open and scampering out. Turns out, a lot of people were up early in New York- I had to avoid getting stepped on as I hurried to the newspaper box. Taking out the top one and carrying it back to the apartment which was harder then before because i had to carry something almost twice my weight.

Waiting to see if no one was looking before I jumped up to open the door again, this time I fell onto my backside on the way down but I shook it off. I hurriedly scampered into the apartment  with the newspaper in my mouth, crawling up onto the bed where the human slept and hit their nose

"Aah!" The human awoke with a scream, sitting up and almost flinging me into the wall. Luckily, I grabbed onto their shirt at the last moment.

"Oh, hey Francis" They looked down at me and scooped me Into their arms. "Why'd you wake me up so early" they rubbed their eyes

I squeaked at them, pointing at the news paper.

"Huh? You wanna read it? Do rats even read?" The human scratched their neck, picking up the newspaper. "Oh wait, you want me to read it for you"

I nodded, sitting on their shoulder as they began to read it. Nothing interesting was there unless the human gasped and pointed to a picture of a store.

"There's a new shop opening up! And they sew clothes for pets like you! Oh sorry, you're not a pet" they apologized after I nudged their neck.

"But seriously! We should go and get you the perfect outfit!" Human stood up and went to get dressed, of course I hoped down onto the bed and looked out the window. What? Just because I'm a rat means what I get to see them naked? Of course not!

Anyways, they got dressed, grabbed me and their wallet and we headed out the door. Taking the nearest metro station downtown.

The train came within the next few minutes. I crawled into their hood and peaked my head out the side. Looking around the train to see if Deadpool was still on. I don't know, he was on the train the first time I met the human. Surprisingly enough... The train was packed with superheroes... Or at least I hope it was just people dressed as them for some sort of event. But I may be wrong, I don't know how most of the hero's get around...

Anyways, I must have dozed off or something because the next time I opened my eyes, we were at the shop. The human sat down on a Bench while I slept which was kind of them. I stretched and yawned before I turned in a circle to let them know I was awake.

"Oh! How was your nap? I decided to wait for you since I needed you awake to choose your clothes" The human turned off their phone and put it in their pocket.

I squeak before nodding my head. The human nodded and stood up before heading into the shop.

I peaked my head out and looked at all the small animal clothes. We must have looked around for an hour before I finally spotted it.

My eyes widened as I gazed upon the holy treasure. A white and red striped vest that looked like those old times popcorn boxes. I squeaked at the human before jumping off their shoulder and doing a little backflip before I landed on the floor on all fours. The human laughed at my jump.

I climbed the steel table and grabbed the vest with my paws, staring at it in amazement as I then turned and showed it to the human.

"You want that one? Get out! That would look adorable on you!" They gasped before helping me put it on.

I can't lie, I felt snazzy as hell. Adjusting the best around my arms before I struck a pose. The human laughed again before picking me up and bringing me to the cash.

"Hi, can we buy this vest?" The human asked the other human working behind the counter.

"Sure, that'll be 10 dollars" the other human replied before my human payed them.

I watched all this happen, happy that I could wear clothes as well.

"You're welcome, Francis" the human patted my head and I smiled at them. They turned and took me with them out of the store. I sat on their shoulder as we headed back to the train and back to the apartment.

Human opened the door and we stepped inside. I don't know why they still slept in the same house as that dude who dressed in red and blue... But I guess it's because he can keep them save more then I can and I'm very envious of him... I want to keep the human safe but I'm the size of their foot and can't really do anything... But I won't let that stop me from trying!

I jumped off of theirs shoulder and landed on the couch before I scurried off and went to the bathroom to find a mirror. Climbing up the sink and standing on my back legs as I posed infront of the mirror. I was truely happy...
