Warren
"WARREN THAMSANQA ADAMS! UPHI?" (Where are you).
"MAMA?"he shouted back already fast walking towards the sound of his mother's voice. It was the afternoon before they had to leave to take him back to campus. His father had been gracious enough to make brunch and his mother was about to start cooking dinner. He wondered what he had done to make her mad now.
The weather was humid and he was sitting outside with his feet in the pool when he was interrupted by his mother. He made it to the top of the stairs just in time to hear her muttering about how she thought they were past this stage and if they weren't she would show him, all the while almost violently making her way through the clothes on the floor to the wardrobe.
He saw her turn around and open her mouth as if she was about to scream his name again he walked in thinking she would at least be happy he came quickly. " Thamie do I look like your maid, why haven't you packed all your things when you know we leave before sunrise! I swear whatever you leave lying outside the wardrobe will be donated no questions asked!"
With that she turned and left him to sort through all his stuff. She was right though, at 4am tomorrow uTata will expect the van to be packed and ready for the trip back to Pretoria and his room looked a mess.
He spent the next hour and a half sorting through what he was going to leave and what he wanted to donate and what he was going to keep into seperate piles. Getting bored he decided to call the one person he was sure was also dying of boredom, he put his phone on the desk and inserted an earpod so he could continue working as he sat down to fold his clothes. He chuckled knowing she would not be happy with him but he enjoyed annoying her too much to care.
While the phone rang he thought about how He had accidently called her last week, and they ended up talking for about 3 hours. Arguably the best mistake he ever made.
"LEAVE ME ALONE!", "Wow is this how you greet a friend calling to make sure you're still alive", "Mxm, cela ungangdakelwa yazi, ungihlukumeza umphefumlo nje" ( please don't play games with me, you just like annoying and torturing my soul).
Warren laughed at this because it was somewhat true. He enjoyed annoying Nhlanhla, getting her out of comfort zone. " Wenza ntoni? (what are you up to in anycase), you're virtually alone, I'm sure I'm the only human contact you've had today." She scoffed and then he heard shuffling noises like she was moving around in bed.
"Have you even left campus today?" He wouldn't be surprised if she hadn't, Nhlanhla loved being alone more than anyone he'd ever met. It's like she existed her own bubble and hated when others got too close.
" FYI people started coming back already, so campus isn't a complete ghost town anymore, secondly considering you're an only child and you just so happen to live in a COTTAGE by yourself, I'd say you take for granted the phrase silence is golden whereas I relish it thank you very much and lastly I have not left campus today, I am enjoying the sweet freedom of having the room to myself for the last time before Hleli comes back."
He wanted to laugh but her voice sounded sad, so he covered it with a cough instead while shaking his head. She was a strange girl indeed, they continued to talk over the phone regardless of her previous objections and 2 hours later she hung up claiming she was hungry and that the food she ordered had arrived.
Warren was glad to have talked to her today, thanks to her distracting him, most of the clothes in his bedroom were folded and either in his suitcase or wardrobe. He went down stairs to rest a bit and sat down in the lounge. When he sat down his phone vibrated indicating a message and when he clicked in it, it was a picture of Nhlanhla's chicken and mushroom pizza, with the heart eyes emoji.
