the courtroom was silent as Mercy took the stand. the only sound was the click of her footsteps on solid marble floors.
cameras shuttered and clicked and flashed, annoying the girl deeply. but she didnt say a word. she slid out the chair, and took a seat at the stand, next to the judge who leaned a little away, miffed by greatly by being so close to her.
"Please read the charges aloud." the Justice said.
Mercy didnt move as the bailiff raised a large list.
"Mercy, you are being charged with the following crimes: 223 counts of manslaughter. Genocide. homicide of all degrees. vehicular manslaughter, assault with a deadly weapon, blackmailing, unreasonable cruelty, drug carting, robbery, robbery with a deadly weapon, unregistered Husk status, unregistered use of a weapon, unregistered..."
the droning voice went on and on. war crimes, geneva conventions, slaughter. anything you could think of was on that list. of course besides hatecrimes. she wasnt a monster.
Reporters took down the details of the womens stance. unbothered, bored even. she would have a hard time convincing the jury of her innocence if she was going to act so arrogant!
after ten minutes of reading Mercys crimes, the bailiff stepped to the side, and the room went quiet.
"Miss Mercy, how do you plead to the charges." the judge asked.
Mercy leaned forward, and the crowd leaned back, they held their breath, waiting for her to say not guilty.
"your honor, i plead guilty, with no remorse."
the answer rang through the air, photos snapped furiously, pens scribbled loudly as reporters swiftly took notes.
the opposing lawyer smiled, knowing the case was more than won.
"Your honor, may i approach?" she asked.
the judge simply nodded, to bewildered to ask questions.
the lawyer drew near.
"Miss mercy, you plead guilty to the heinous crimes yes?" she asked.
mercy nodded.
"therefore, you have no denial or regret over what happened? you testify that it was you who blew up the museum, you who collapsed a dig site full of precious artifacts, you who-"
mercy put up a hand.
"does me saying 'i pleade guilty, no remorse' mean something else to you?' i did what was neccessary, you all can judge how you want but the reality is, i saved everyone in here from annhilation." mercy said.
there was a hush that fell over the room.
"you may veiw me as a monster, you may say i tried to murder everyone or that im a terrorist. but the facts are simple. i saved this earth. you all just never heard the full story." mercy replied.
the frown on the lawyers face deepened.
"and pray tell Miss mercy, what could possibly excuse such horrible acts?"
mercy sighed.
"id sit down miss, because that is a long and heavy answer." Mercy said.
the lawyer didnt budge, but waited for Mercy to start.
"well, it started four years ago. i had just finished a job."
(time skip)
mercy slipped through the crowd with ease. her hood pulled tight over her hair, ear buds blaring music, and her pissed off expression telling everyone to leave her alone.
