"Three years ago, I was imbued with the power of the Phoenix. It's like our own fire: a derivative of pure energy. We call it M.A.G.I.C. It should be able to power the Reviver just as well as our fire—and I can recharge it. The Reviver permanently drains our power, right? So if I use my Phoenix power, that won't be a problem. I could fuel the Reviver by myself, and ALL of us would survive. In theory, anyways."
Zillion Martinez took a deep breath and let it out slowly as he finished his explanation, waiting for his parents' response.
Valafar, patriarch of House Marnozal, rubbed his chin thoughtfully. "Hrmph. In theory," he muttered. "I suppose it could work... but I still want Cierra to come just in case it doesn't. Besides, that still doesn't fix the Trozian problem if they find us before the Reviver is fueled."
"It would be best if we had a little extra firepower," Maricella agreed, still somewhat overwhelmed by meeting her son for the first time in twenty-one years.
"Right. I'll keep trying to find her," Zill promised. "And Alexis can help me once I meet her."
Maricella nodded and turned to her ex-husband. "Is this satisfactory, Valafar?" she asked in a bitter tone.
Valafar met her gaze coldly for a moment before nodding. "Yes. This shall suffice." He turned back to Zill and dipped his head. "We await your arrival... my son."
Zill scowled as his father's hologram disappeared. He was nothing like the Chimeros had thought he'd be. He was cold, cruel, and seemed only to care of completing his mission. That was no father.
Maricella, on the other hand, cupped Zill's face again with her holographic hands. "I've missed you so much, Zill," she whispered. "I can't wait to see you again." She smiled and added, "I love you."
Zill smiled, wiping away a stray tear. "Love you too, Mom."

When the "reunion" ended, Zill stepped out of the mansion and exhaled shakily. "Okay. That went better than I expected," he said to himself. "Now all that's left is to find—"
"Zillion."
Zill turned sharply to the south as the unfamiliar voice rang through his head, causing his antennae to shake involuntarily.
No—it wasn't unfamiliar. He'd heard it before... a long time ago.
Zill didn't hesitate. He spread both pairs of wings, Phoenix and arthrogon, and sent fire shooting out of his feet—the flames of the Protector and Chimeros. He left a trail of smoke in the sky behind him as he rocketed toward Safe Haven's border.
Alexis of House Marnozal kept her head down as voices came from outside her cell, all speaking in low tones.
Then, at long last, the cell door slid open with a loud, metallic clang, and she lifted her head.
Zill flashed her a grin, striking a casual-yet-heroic silhouette against the lights of the hallway behind him. "Hey, Sis," he said. "Long time no see!"
Alexis smiled slightly.
