A/N: This is a flashback chapter
"Alright." Gajeel sighed. "It was about six months after I met Levy."

The day had been slow, and hot. It was in the middle of summer, and teens had nothing better to do then either hang out at home, go the park or swim -either at public pools or in personal ones in a backyard- and the occasional fair that rolled into town.

Gajeel was sitting around, bored out of his mind, just waiting for something to happen. Anything, but of course, not a damn thing. The Dragneel's had all gone out of town for some big boxing thing. Levy had gone off to see her grandparents in Magnolia, so that left Gajeel alone. He had gotten away form his parents and was sitting in a loud and rowdy bar, which probably wasn't the best choice for a young man. And it wasn't even one of his fathers bars, so he if he got in a fight, there would be no getting much help.

"Gajeel!" He turned to see a group of men walk in, the Phantom Lord Gang symbol either tattooed on them or painted on their jackets.

"What'd ya want, Kaine?" He growled as the man sat next to him and stole a drink of his beer.

"What? I can't come see an old friend?" Kaine grinned and stole a fry as well. "Besides, I'm in town and seeing as I know ya better then anyone else, I figured ya be here." He ordered himself a beer and made an attempt to flirt with the barmaid, ending up with a slap to the face and most of his beer down the front of his shirt.

"Gihihi. You deserved that." Gajeel smirked and finished his drink.

"Shut it, punk. Anyways, I didn't come here for a friendly chat." Kaine's mood and tone changed in a matter of seconds. "Word on the street says ya got yourself a nice little piece of ass. This true?" Gajeel snorted and shrugged.

"Tch. Like I would ever go for a shrimp like that. Besides, you know what kinda chicks I go for." Kaine rolled his eyes and and shook his head. In truth, Gajeel had grown quit found of his small training partner. But they had been hanging out more often, rather then training.

"I ain't askin this cause I can't get my own ass. I'm askin cause Master Jose is getting fed up with you ditching us." He said, seriously and downed his drink.

"Well, you can tell him my old mans been keepin me busy. So it ain't like I want to ditch you guys. If it were up ta me, I woulda run off with you guys last month." Gajeel grumbled under his breath.

"Listen, you brat. I've seen you with this pipsqueak. Yeah, she's got a cute little face, but you could never get that. And I mean that in the nicest way possible." Kaine added, earning him a punch. "And if you keep ditching us for her, things won't be so good for either of you. Especially her."

"So what, you stalkin me now? Am I not allowed to live my own life away from you assholes?!" He growled and got up to leave. Kaine grabbed his arm and sat his ass back down before giving him a hard glare.

"I ain't interested in your fuckin personal life, ya brat. I want to keep that lil' girlie safe. Jose ordered me to keep an eye on ya while he's gone, so that's what I'm doing. So get yer head outta yer ass, it sure as hell ain't a goddamn hat." Kaine growled.

"Why the hell would you care about her? It ain't like she's yer friend or nothin. Sure as hell ain't anyone she would know." Gajeel said, looking at Kaine up and down. He was total opposite to what Levy was seen around. Black leather jacket over a black and red skull t-shirt with his black jeans over his black biker boots.

"That's where yer wrong, dickweed. I've known the McGardens before she was even born." Kaine said, shocking Gajeel but he didn't let it show.

"How?" He demanded.
