Five String Serenade by Mazzy Star (Peter/Lily)

When we park at Peter's house, he gets out first and rushes over to get my door for me before I can step out.

"Thanks," I say awkwardly.

I look at the house and give a low whistle. "Wow. Google maps doesn't do it justice."

Peter chuckles and walks me up to the front door. I watch him fumble with the house keys for a moment.

He opens the door and we walk in.

"Wow, it's nice in here," I say. It's surprisingly clean, for a bachelor's pad.

Peter raises an eyebrow at me with a smile. "Did you think it'd be a garbage dump?"

I shrug. "I don't think I've ever been around someone who didn't have some clutter around." I wonder how much he cleaned up before I got here.

"Make yourself at home," Peter says, taking his shoes off at the entrance. I mirror his action and remove my shoes to be polite. "I'm going to get the kitchen set up for us to cook."

Peter disappears to a small hallway to the right of me.

I stand in the entryway, biting my lip and hugging myself for a moment. My stomach feels strange. Knotted, but not unpleasant. I'm slightly shaky, but it doesn't seem to be from fear.

I stare at my fidgety hands. What's going on with me?

I force myself to take steps into the living room. Peter's got a big T.V mounted to the wall in the living room, with a couch placed in front of it. It's an open floor plan, with the kitchen visible from the living room.

Peter reaches into a cupboard and pulls out a candle and lighter. He sees me in the living room and gives me an excited smile.

"You know how to cook pasta, right?" Peter asks.

He strides to the coffee table in front of the T.V and lights the candle. I recognize the ocean and campfire scent. It's the candle he purchased on the night we met. I can see it's been used a few times from the rings in the wax.

My stomach knots again.

I frown.

"Lily?" Peter straightens himself and gives me a curious expression. "Are you okay? Would you like a water, or a seat?"

I fidget with the ring on my finger and shake my head. I don't know why I came here. "No, no. I'm fine. Thank you, Peter. Just taking it all in." Maybe I shouldn't've come here.

Peter looks around as though he's not sure what there is to take in. When his eyes rest on me again, he cocks his head to the side. "How can I... make you feel safe here?"

I look at him. "What?"

He gestures around the house. "I want you to feel safe. It must be hard for you. I imagine new places aren't comfortable to be in."

His words echo around my empty head. No one had ever asked how they could make me feel safe, before. I don't even know how to answer. He's not even taking my reaction personally.

He blushes and looks away, rubbing the back of his neck. "S-sorry. I don't mean to make assumptions."

I shake my head. "No, it's fine. Maybe a...tour?" I mumble.

Peter smiles. "Of course. I should've done that to begin with." Peter whisks ahead of me. "Not to brag, but the house is a bit large, so buckle down."
