Changyun had always wondered what happened to the quiet boy he talked to at school.

He just wasn't expecting to find him again when investigating a series of disappearances.

------------------------------

Changyun always wondered about him.
That quiet boy under the tree. He'd spend every recess there, in the shade, even when it was cold and dark outside. No one ever approached him, either. Was he lonely?
Changyun went to the tree one day.

He looked up at the boy sitting on the low branch. "Um... Hello."
The other stared absentmindedly at the distance before sighing and turning to the intruder of his space.
"Do you need something?"
"No, just... Why do you stay here?" Changyun asked, hoping he sounded more curious than pushy.
"Because I want to," the boy replied before looking away again.

Changyun noticed the movement of his hair, falling into big brown eyes that had a strangely cold sheen. His gaze was actually quite gentle, not as frightening as Changyun thought when he was stared at just a few moments ago. Something about the boy drew him in; he wanted to know more about him.

"Lee Changyun," he mumbled, not getting the attention of the other. He tried again, "I- I'm Lee Changyun! Nice to meet you!"
The boy turned to him a second time, no annoyance in his gesture. "Lee Seungjun. Nice to meet you too."

They'd meet every day after that. Seungjun kept his distance at first, but after some point he jumped down from the branch to spend time with the other. Changyun started bringing extra snacks to school to share with him. Seungjun still never left the shade once he'd get there, but Changyun chalked it up to getting sunburnt easily. He wouldn't talk much either, though he seemed to not mind the other's company, who rambled on about his day. He seemed at ease so Changyun was relieved.

Sometimes his classmates would tease him, wondering why he started hanging out with the "weird tree kid". Changyun didn't mind, though, saying that Seungjun was actually really cool and he enjoyed hanging out with him. Though they didn't ask further, none of the classmates would try to talk with Seungjun anyways.

Seungjun chuckled one day when Changyun told him about the one time he tried to cook alone. It sounded a bit like a balloon deflating, but Changyun's chest swelled with happiness. The other didn't even seem to notice it, as he started expressing his enjoyment more often and would begin throwing small quips at Changyun's misadventures.

Changyun learned about the other's likes and dislikes. How purple was a color Seungjun often liked and how he avoided cucumber in his food. He never talked about his life, though. Changyun didn't want to pry so he didn't force it either. They're already friends, so the least he could do was trust in the other. Which he did. Until—

A commotion started outside. It was raining. Changyun rushed to the tree as his classes had just ended. Seungjun wasn't there. Only blood on the ground. He ran to the front of the school. In an instant, he saw Seungjun walking to a car with two adults, head hanging low.

"Jun—" Changyun stopped as he saw the other's hands stained in red.

Seungjun turned to the voice, surprise morphing into horror as Changyun's expression was of shock, seeing the other's face smeared in blood. The voices over them were drowned out by the heavy rain, soaking Changyun to the bone as he stood there, paralyzed, watching the rueful boy enter the car. Soon after, the murmurs died down, and the teacher brought him a jacket, telling him to go inside.
